nothing wrong with having a background vocal track to sing along with. Eminem does it, I think many do. Helps to keep the vocals strong and prevents the artist from forgetting lines. She wasn't lip syncing, just singing along to low volume recorded vocals.

That's just my point....

You can be actually talented, sing KILLer live, and be uhm 'ugly' or gay etc etc. Two artists come to mind allison krauss, and elton john.

You can also tell little simpson DID sing her tracks in the studio. When she says "pieces" "pieces of me" etc, she sounds EXACTLY like Jessica. I don't believe they are using sound a likes in studios any longer, after c@c and the other doomed artists....

Erm, Tony...where in the world does racism come into play here? I am totally confused, mate.
Please read the rest of my post before you misquote with only the first sentence again :? :

If this was Milli Vanilli all over again, we would want them to fall down hard!! :x

But Ashlee or Britney...yes, we treat them like international joke, but they still making more money to keep going with this foolish!!!!! :x

Typical America!

the issue with milli vanilli was different. the two fronters actually never sang, even in the studio. the producer frank farian (or something) had only hired them to be the pretty faces of milli vanilli.

On that video, the "low volume" vocals defenitely aren't exactly low in volume... at least from what you can tell from it.

Btw, just wanted to watch it again and the video won't load any more...

holy shit.

racism?

holy shit.

and I might add the following: pretty faces have never played a decisive role in rock music. if that were the case then none of these garbage "nu-metal" bands would have been signed. and let's not even get into Tom Petty's hideous mug. and I'll just iterate earlier points about Milli Vanilli being a completely different story, in that they never sang their material, ever. with this poor twat's case, she at least sang it once or twice in the studio before an engineer beat it to fit and painted it to match. that's the difference between a drummer having his track chopped a bit to correct sloppiness and a drummer who relies on a drum machine because he can't play.

perspective, people.

I, for one, am glad if the Simpson bitch lip syncs all the time. I had the great misfortune of hearing her sing live. OMG!!!!!!!

It was like a cat being strangled.

The execs probably got wise and asked her to lip sync from now on.

It wasn't Milli Vanilli's voice/voices on the record which won a Grammy.

It seems at least Ashlee gets credit for having her own (enhanced) voice on her record.

The race card doesn't apply, so don't be an ass... you ass.
First of all you homo, how the hell are we suppose to know if Ashlee acually did sing on her own album at all if she can't sing most of them "live" like she should have? :x 8)

I know you can foolish a lot of people with too much reverb but this is profound sad!!
Why are you calling people homo like it's an insult? Then you rightly complain about racism in music. Is that double standards or what? :x

As for Mini Vanilli they got a Grammy award for their singing. I think that's why they fell so hard when they were exposed. I'm sure they weren't the first or the last black or white artists lip syncing but they were the first to win a Grammy and the old US establishment aren't going to let that slide now are they? Also, weren't they a creation of a white producer. The two lead singers were black but the production was mostly white. Just shows to go ya that things are not always black and white.

What about that woman who claimed to sing on Ride On Time when the sample was actually stolen from another black singer. Singers and musicians have been ripped of by every everyone including people of the same skin colour and culture. Motown springs to mind as much as any white label when it comes to treating musicians as puppets and ripping them off.

I think there are a lot better examples of the white establishment taking music from black culture and making loads of cash out of it. Cue Paul Simon. I suppose the good thing nowdays (if you like to look at it as 'good') is that now black producers/managers can rip black musicians off instead of some white svengali. Perhaps getting ripped off by your own kind is supposed to be better. But I don't think so. :(

Milli Vanilli were crushed from the critics and others because they wanted them to actually falt at something. Not sure how old you are, but they were IT back in the day, and some little "oops" caused their demise. Remember c@c music factory with the girl?....uhm, yeah she wasn't the real singer. It was a 'healthy' girl so to say.
It is honestly not about sex, or looks, because to me madonna is not that attractive and she uhm, has lip synced ALOT of her concerts....BUT guys do it all the time too. Now to play the race card, that's just wrong IMHO, but what do I know?
1) I'm close to 30, so yes, I remember Milli Vanilli. And sometimes. I still like some of those songs even though they weren't the guys & girl singing them. 8)

2) Yes, I remember C+C Music Factory. The female vocalist (Zelma Davis) acually have a power voice on the songs "Here We Go (Let Rock & Roll) and "Things That Make You Go Hmmmm".

One problem lied with the first single "Everybody Dance Now". As proving during an out of court settlement, that wasn't Zelma singing the female vocals on THAT song, it was Martha Walsh.

This was the same Martha Walsh that C+C hired to do some uncredited backing work for the girl band Seduction back in 1990-91. In Italy, Martha was also uncredited for being the real lead vocalist for the dance band Black Box. 8)

3)As part of ongoing media witch hunt in 89-91, even The New Kids On The Block were accused for lip-synching different parts oc their own live shows. The situation was so bad, these guy had to return to America (before finishing their tour of Japan) to perform live at a late night talkshow to prove once and for all that they can sing live....imperfect but live.

Maybe it was because someone called him an ass like it's an insult.

You ruin an interesting point your making by coming out with some homophobic insult. As for offering me up outside - that's just sad. Don't you get it that disrespecting gay people doesn't help your anti-racist arguement at all? I'm calling you on that issue so what has that got to do with Eric? You said it not him.

You really can't see it can you? If anyone used the 'n' word I'd come down on them. But you think it's ok to be homophobic. As for Eric - I have never met the man so how would I know whether he is white. Stop making excuses.

Post

I don't know - if you're not a homo and someone calls you a homo isn't that a valid insult?

Are there many non-homos that want to be called homos? I think that's what makes it an insult isn't it?

Where are we on the homo insult these days?
