Looks like the United States FCC just had a bunch of papers filed for Akai's upcoming re-fresh on the MPC Live - check it out:

https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ ... d=Y4O-ACVB

Not sure how I feel about the built-in speaker, but.... there it is. Wondering what other changes are there - looks bigger...

Intended release date was 180 days from date of submission, which was the 10th of October in 2019. That would make it 6 months from then, which is roughly mid-April 2020. That said, this was before the COVID-19 pandemic, soooo.... :o

Right, and it was pointed out elsewhere that the whole "SPKR" listing is a common approach for FCC filings to hide actual features, so it may or may not actually be coming with a built-in speaker. The screen size appears to be the same size as the existing first-gen MPC. That said, the size - if that diagram in those FCC filings are accurate - is noticeably larger, and less rectangular than the existing body.

Yeah, you played your cards right. I guarantee you it won't change the software limitations we talked about, though. Still, the newest hardware is always nice - and it will likely use the same screen generation as the MPC One which allegedly has better response than the existing Live.

This may or may not be legit, as a well known troll over at the MPC-forums posted it, so take it with a grain of salt - but it does appear to line up with the FCC paperwork illustrations:

It's got better button arrangement for direct access stuff, too (sampler, sample edit, etc). Me likey. Me don't likey enough to sell my Live and buy the new MK2, but still - me likey.

It definitely has a speaker anyway - on off button for it!

Yeah, that's a good point. Likely not an FCC placeholder afterall. Oh well, I guess some will really like the speaker. I'm not so excited about the increase in size, though.

Good!! I actually like the Akai MPC product a lot. I tried the hardware and software and its really good and sounds great. The way things are going with NI, I am seriously thinking of jumping ship from their ecosystem.

Well, if being truly standalone without having to mess with a computer is your goal, the current MPC line tops anything NI can currently offer.

I'd pick up an MPC Live used/second hand, or maybe a Live 2 or One or X from a retailer that has a generous 30-day return policy and give it a spin. If you don't like the results, return it. But you'll probably see a lot of first-gen MPC Live's hit the used market soon in preparation of the Live 2 coming out. They will all run the same software/OS.

Same here. I’m too lazy to deal with the hassle of selling my MK1. But it does look good. I’ll hold out for a Force MK2 in another year or two.
