Is The Singer A Lip-Syncher?

NEW YORK -- Was she or wasn't she -- lip-synching?

Ashlee Simpson appeared on "Saturday Night Live" Saturday night, but apparently she wasn't "live" enough. Simpson was on the NBC comedy show to perform two of her songs.

Something went wrong during her second number.

Her band started playing "Autobiography," but a recorded vocal track had Simpson singing "Pieces of Me," which she did earlier on the show.

Simpson looked confused as the band plowed ahead and the vocal was quickly silenced. Simpson then did some hoe-down style dance moves and walked off stage about a-half minute into the song. NBC quickly cut to a commercial.

Her record label insists Simpson wasn't lip-synching, saying the track was supposed to have been some pre-taped electronic percussion.

At the end of the show, guest host Jude Law appeared and tried to explain the pre-recorded song. "What can I say?" Law said with Simpson by his side. "Live TV."

"Exactly. I feel so bad. My band started playing the wrong song. I didn't know what to do so I thought I'd do a hoe-down," Simpson said.

And the reaction on her Web site has been harsh. People have inundated the site with insults, angry comments and vulgar language.

this is all soooo ridiculous - you can see every day bands 'playing live' on tv where the guitars aren't even plugged-in and the drums aren't microphoned.

and another thing:
at a live-concert a mistake is just one moment in time, whereas tv-shows are being videotaped and can be repeated again and again.
That's exactly the reason why most bands (including your favourite stars) overdub their live-performances before they sell them to you. They want to have it perfect, because you can still listen to it twenty years later, so mistakes stay forever. I wouldn't mind using playbacks and fake-playing guitar if I appeared on tv in front of millions of people who fart in their sofa while I play the wrong note.

Ashlee is all over the radio today laying 100% of the blame on her band. It's a sad day indeed when the singer blames the band for playing the wrong song to her pre-taped vocal!

I guess a good solution would to pre-tape them too, and replace their instruments with cheaper Hasbro toy versions...Bad Band....Bad Band....

I hate the business of contrived talent!
For acts that don`t actually have real talent,but have a look or something some record company want to market to the young as talent is a mind f**k/brainwash...and steals opperatunity for REAL talent to be heard in the large market!

The world already has an Avril Lavigne and it does not need another angsty, pseudo-emotional minge. Let this one die. Jessica Simpson definately has the better qualities in that family (and she will be showing her assets as Daisy Duke in the future
