Hi All,
First question, do many of you use any Ipad apps and integrate them into your sound. I feel a lot of people look down on the Ipad musicians but is something like Eventide Blackhole better on a PC then on an IPad. Its a lot more affordable on the Ipad.
Also some of the drum machines sound great to me patterning and DM1 are great. Anyone have thoughts on this

Bad workflow (small screen vs. big screen on a desktop computer, using a touchscreen vs. using a tactile controller), worse processing power, having to task switch between apps, and loads of plugins available on Windows/Mac OS compared to iOS.

The plugins aren't better or worse on PC or iPad. It's just that I find working on such a device inferior for audio software (and anything else really). If it works for you, it works for you.

A friend of mine writes on his iPad, then transfers the audio to his PC via Bluetooth for finishing off. The sound quality is fine.

iPad works really well with a Mac, but I think you need to jump through a few hoops to get it working with a PC.

There are even apps I can use on my iPhone or iPad, create a project in GarageBand then pull it in to Logic on my Mac. It’s also good for immediate processing of field recordings.

Thanks Guys,
At the moment Im just creating Loops in different apps and then exporting them to AudioShare. It seems to be easy to get a beat going.

In terms of workflow, yeah, touch can be more finicky than using a mouse for sure, and I find it's more cumbersome to get a set of tracks set up in an iPad DAW versus on my computer. That being said, the gap is beginning to close in certain respects - with AUv3 you can work much more like a traditional DAW with plugins and not have to switch between apps all the time, and with multi-out plugins arriving you can do per-track drum processing, etc. So, it's not as dissimilar as it once was, and there are for sure some plugins on iOS that are not available on Mac/PC, and a lot of other apps, especially for doing quick sketches and beatmaking. I still think that working on iOS constantly would drive me crazy, but it has definitely worked as a complement to put together loops or sounds for further arranging.

That being said, for this topic it's almost obligatory to link to discchord (https://discchord.com/) for a ton of examples of just how complex you can get working with mobile music making...

I like using iPad for beats/controllers. Not enough I/O for me to use as the cornerstone of a production setup, but fun.

I use a 7 years old IPad Air running Granular Borderlands, Patterning 2, Xynthesizr and lots of other apps, in many cases I find it a much more intuitive, straight forward and hassle free music instrument than any combination of computer/controller I’ve had.
But I still have to record/export (audioshare) into My PC for editing and mixing.
I also uses iOS devices for gigs, such as score writing/reading, tracks/loop cueing. Easy to carry and quick to setup in any circumstances.

Is Granular Borderlands worth the money? I have looked at purchasing it

Absolutely! One of those really inspiring apps on the iPad...

I use my iPad Mini for playing my LinnStrument, and its easy to bind it into a DAW session if necessary (at least on a Mac...).
There are a ton of very good MPE instruments available...
