$900 or whatever I spent on Fl Studio, completely wasted. It has worthwhile synths and effects, but the user-interface is idiotic. Flashy colors, for stupid kids.

That doesn't reflect so well on your decision-making abilities, does it?MusicProgrammer wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2020 5:42 am $900 or whatever I spent on Fl Studio, completely wasted. It has worthwhile synths and effects, but the user-interface is idiotic. Flashy colors, for stupid kids.
Especially since you can't take those synths & effects with you to other DAW.

all interfaces take a while - FL is not bad really, the only thing that stops me using it more is the lack of auto crossfading for audio items

I impulse-buy gear to compensate for my bad music-production ability, but I can still say, it's the least usable of my four DAW's, and the most expensive. They designed the U.I. for looping drum beats, and actual notes were an afterthought that never made it to first-class. It's my fault for buying when the U.I. was plainly garbage from the start.antic604 wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2020 5:51 am That doesn't reflect so well on your decision-making abilities, does it?.
It's not my fault that VST and Rewire don't work. It's fraud; I paid for those features, and they were advertised.

Thanks, but I've been using interfaces since 1980, so I did take that into account before calling it the worst of any program.

I don't mind the visual GUI design that much, but the workflow is horrific - I agree.MusicProgrammer wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2020 6:08 amThey designed the U.I. for looping drum beats, and actual notes were an afterthought that never made it to first-class. Do you mean you didn't see the interface of FL Studio before you spend $900?! Also you bought the whole thing, not the producer or signature edition!
Can I ask a personal question? Have you seen your wife's/husband's face before the wedding day?
Anyway, can you tell us what you don't like? I personally think is has a pleasant interface but different workflow. However, it is not a new DAW! It has been there for a long time now with big following. It needs a time to get used to its workflow (patterns based). It has an excellent piano roll.
I use it for a quick beat making. It is very fast to do cool beats with it. It also has great tools

But yeah I respect that you are not new to the interface and legitimately think the FL interface is pretty shit

Some people like carrots while some don't. Some like FL Studio and some don't. It's all subjective anyway and it's a part of life.

The step editor is indeed for creating loops, it has some note capability, but you can completely hide that and just use the piano roll and playlist editor if it upsets you. The piano roll is widely regarded as one of the best in any DAW.MusicProgrammer wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2020 6:08 am They designed the U.I. for looping drum beats, and actual notes were an afterthought that never made it to first-class.

If VSTs never worked in FL they would not have well over 1m members of their forums, 10x higher than their competitors. ReWire works too.

I mean the application regardless of what they say was designed specifically to evoke a video game (MTV Music Generator, Music by Codemasters). It's supposed to look and feel like a game. It's not a great interface but it can certainly be fun to use at times.
I do agree that everything else is tacked on to the step sequencer. The Piano Roll is really featureful and pretty good, but if you actually play instruments not so much imo. I still remember when it was first added to Fruity Loops 3.

I always felt FL Studio to be an evolution of a tree-house for kids. You started off with a simple little room and the older you got the more rooms got added and now you are married, have kids, pets and all kinds of hobbies and all rooms were built when they were needed, not because someone had a grand plan in the beginning.
That being said - I don't mind the interface that much. It's terribly messy - but it has a certain charm.

I'm sure it's the latter.Trancit wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2020 2:12 pm Sorry, but somebody spending 900 bucks without intensly testing anything before is either a complete idiot or trolling...
