Midi notes generated by Kontakt instrument playable through other VSTis?

Let's say I am using a Kontakt intrument which creates midi notes other than just those which I feed it. For example, I play a chord and a soniccouture instrument's "Jammer" feature generates a pattern of notes based on it. Is there a way I can send those notes to either a) another Kontakt instrument or b) a non-Kontakt VSTi (e.g. Alchemy)?

Depends on which host you are using. Most allow for this but not all. So, which host are you using?

I am using Acid Pro 7. I can say that with this host I can easily route midi-generators to audio-producing VSTis, for example

keyboard >>> midi arpeggitator >>> Alchemy

So I know how to handle such routing. Where I am stuck is getting Kontakt to play the role of the midi arpeggiator in the above example. I can get Kontakt to send out audio, of course, but not midi data

I am clueless about Acid Pro. Someone should be able to address that issue for you though.

My guess is that you need not know about Acid Pro; rather, if one just knows how to make Kontakt transmit midi data to the outside world, the rest should fall into place

Or even ignoring the Acid aspect -- if I've loaded 2 Kontakt instruments, is it possible to send the midi data of the first soi that it is the input for the second?

Kontakt doesn't send midi afaik.

Yes, that's possible and rather easy to achieve.
First go to Kontakt --> Options --> Engine. There is "Send MIDI to outside world" and select "script generated CC's" and "script generated notes".
Now all notes and controllers generated by a script will be sent out Kontakt's midi out.
Sorry, don't know Acid Pro but it should be done something like this:
1) Load an scripted instrument into Kontakt and assign it to midi channel 1
2) Then load another instrument without a script and assign it to midichannel 2
3) Create a midi track in your host and assign it to Kontakt's midi channel 1. So when you play you hear the scripted instrument alone.
4) Create another midi track in your host. Important: choose "Kontakt Midi Out" as input for this midi track. Do not assign your keyboard to this track! Assign this midi track to Kontakt's midi channel 2.

Done! Now both Kontakt instruments should be triggered by the first instrument's script.
Works well for me in Cubase. Functions even great with LASS AutoArranger. So i layer the LASS rhythmic strings with EastWest Symphonic to gain more depth.

Hope that helps.

Gerald

It's my pleasure, lingyai and Dennis. :)

Forgot to mention, this of course works with any other vst as input also. This is possible since early Kontakt2 days when scripting was introduced.

Works fine in Acid Pro. Thanks again!!! This opens up a huge new dimension!

I'm trying to do exactly this inside Digital Performer 9. Someone knows how to achieve this ?

Cool! I did not know and I opened this thread because yesterday I accidentaly found another application for this (a very good script that is linked only to one instrument). Thanks!
In case you asked, yesterday I discovered (by pure accident) "12 tone randomizer". It does what the name suggests, you play "Happy Birthday" or "Twinkle little star", after the script it sounds like composed by Shoenberg. I need to try this trick to play strings other instruments.
