Yes very true. The recent batch of posts by roman.i weren’t on Goa though so I assumed he was talking about current psy trends and production.

Basically in any of the examples on recent pages a console won’t get you far apart from
subtle saturation for levels but there are better ways to achieve that.

Lots of goa these days is made all ITB with Ableton or Furity Loops stock plugins, and sounds like that

And there is psytrance which sounds like it has been heavily processed with some analogue units or at least with plugins that emulate agressive coloration/distortion

I don't think if there is a trend of using specific console emulations in psytrance production nor a general rule of avoiding them at all. Some producers use them, some don't.

I sometimes may use the Studio One console emulation in the drums to glue them a bit better and also may use some saturators (Saturn, Satin, PSP Mixsaturaror) on individual channels if I think something sounds too harsh or thin,but generally I prefer not to overcomplicate the mix and keep the processing at necessary minimum.

While some parts do indeed have heavy distortion on them I do still find they sound clean and polished though, if that makes any sense. Compare that to the Mackie distortion on the Hallucinogen and Green Nuns (

) records and it's completely different.

Which is quite funny tbh.. Actually I do that too

I was preferring on stuff where bass wasn't sampled or osc retriggered, but 101. Drums from drum machine and soundwise maybe a hint of 303, 101 and maybe yamaha fm.

Will listen to that mix later, thanks for posting. TBH I always had somewhat mixed feelings about Liquid Soul (too cheesy in places) but some his tracks were good.

Great to see Vibrasphere getting a mention - that album is probably one of my all time favourites of any genre. Recently dug out my vinyl copy of the Sweet September EP and it sounds fantastic

I agree about Liquid Soul - there's a fine line between cheesy or euphoric in prog - and trance in general. Maybe that's a whole new discussion!
