I might want to get ableton as it gets more and more interesting for me for audio mangling vs fl studio where it is tedious. I would use ableton for other genres like ambience, sound design etc.

So i read there are cheaper ways to upgrade or get ableton. I got no lite, intro or whatever version so i wonder isnt it the same to just get the suite version? ( i guess the suite version might be the best bang for the buck)
As i dont see it cheaper to first get the intro version then upgrade to suite.
They currently have an extended demo period (3 months), so maybe it'd be worth taking advantage of that to work out your next move. Personally, given you already use other DAW, I'm not sure you'd need 'Suite'; at least, not right from the start. But I'd also look to trying to get a copy of 'Lite' or 'Intro', which are surprisingly well-spec'd (Now, even more than before, as they've opened up all of the stretch algorithms for these 'starter' DAW)

Also, AskAudio are still running their one-month-for$1 promotions (Until the 13th), so this would be a great opportunity to get a month's worth of Ableton tuition.

After three months, and perhaps snagging a cheap copy of 'Lite' you'll really know what you need, and then just hang out in the marketplace for the inevitable good deal :tu:
thx will do the demoing definitely eastern :)! im very excited

You have a Focusrite audio interface which comes with Ableton lite and other useful software.
They're in your Focusrite account.

I think you'll get a lot of mileage out of 'Lite'. When you hit your limit of tracks, effects etc, bounce down and start throwing stuff through 'Simpler', racks etc. Great sonic playground :tu:

JerGoertz wrote: Sat Apr 11, 2020 12:48 pm I have an old version of Live Lite (ver 5, I think) I could sell you, if that helps with an upgrade price.
I believe a lite license is a lite license, entitles you to what ever the current lite version is (so Ableton told me a few years back)

i saw the lighter versions only feature 16 tracks? on fl studio i got mostly 20 etc. so this is why i think suite is better suited theretically and all those stock effects might be cool to modulate within the daw ;). but wo knows i got too many 3rd party plugins already.

'Intro' has 16 tracks, and 'Lite' has 8. I just assumed that you'd be using Ableton as an extra to what you're already using, as a creative space, but with the idea of constructing and mixing tracks in your usual Daw

yeah true, but i might use ableton e.g. for a project/track then only e.g. for a dark ambient track. there i dont need many notes and patterns like a trap beat i do asap in fl studio. but then i can mangle the audio samples instantly in ableton, that was the idea for example :D i hate ableton's piano roll, i am still so used to fl studio's piano roll. i use fl studio so nicely for making various melodies with its ease to use. all the ghost notes etc. so lovely. but for dark ambient i dont need this mostly.

e.g. i tried to do a trap beat in studio one and i just cannot have fun with it so far, true i didnt spend so much time to learn it, started fl studio and had instantly a quick beat laid out.
mastering i do mostly in studio one, it is much more stable and cpu less extensive for me than fl studio though.

edit: wow with ableton live lite i could upgrade for 369 bucks to suite. temmpting but it is till may 20nd so i got enough time to test it out ;D

Are you sure? I see an upgrade from Lite to Suite USD 454.

The track limits (8 lite, 16 intro) aren't too restrictive but the lack of slice audio to midi (unlocked in standard) and modulation mapping (lfo, shaper etc unlocked by m4l/suite) are fairly crippling for a daw like Live.

Just for curiosity, what audio mangling features exactly you find better in live than in bws?

And I'm not an ableton hater, I'm on the edge to grab myself a copy.. I hate some things that are made too difficult, compared to bws.. But so many people use it that pure collaboration could justify the price.

The thread is about the cheapest way to get Ableton, why are people talking about Bitwig and Reaper?
Signatures are so early 2000s.

Have you tried Adobe Audition? :)

Bestservice has lite to suite for $388. Haven’t tried the $20 off code yet, though.

i watch this vid atm, very interesting! he shows some advantages from bitwig but sometimes it looks more annoying to extra click much just to stretch...
