I'm just curious into specific workings of getting a realistic Moog Square Combi - at the moment I've currently layered three Moog Square patches. The 1st patch is at +15 finepitch, the 2nd at -15 finepitch, with the 3rd patch down an octave at +0 pitch.

At the end of the day, it's what sounds good that matters, but i'd just want to see if this an accurate placement for a realistic Moog sound. The thing sounds massive, especially when you start playing around with the fx, like plugging in a chorus on the sub-osc (3rd layer).

I'm also having great fun in the laying capabilities that ST2LE have granted me, soon to be ST2XL, especially creating huge superwave patches and lush pads.

Are you talking about SS2 FREE or SS1 in ST2 LE?

oops, Sonic Synth 2 Free, while I've been having great fun with big patches like super saw wave combi's in both SS2Free and SS1 in ST2LE.

I see. Yes, that should be a good fat moog square sound. Here's another trick. Set an lfo at a slow speed on just one of the mood oscs and bring it down to 7.5 instead of 15. Give it just a little bit of depth and it will drift in and out and give an animated Moog sound to it. Then, of course, kick in that legato portamento mode and you're in Moog heaven.

Also, setting the filter's res to .7 is good for a flat response that has all the high freq present when you raise it. The setting of 0 is actually less than flat and has a little curve that makes it mellower and a bit warmer. It's nice to be able to go that route too but I tend to like it snappier at .7 or above.

That's great, sounds a lot nicer now - just a quick query. Is there a work around to edit parameters on a group of patches (say if they're all routed to the same channel). For example when you are altering portamento and filter settings, you have to do it on all the patches. Is there some master setting somewhere, or am i just lazy.

BTW, those expansion slots on the back of the SS2Free look very nice.

No, there's not master editing for all channels. Not a bad idea though for the future.

Speaking of the future... glad you like those expansion slots.
