Why you left REAPER?

No one leaves Reaper. Reaper leaves you.
It’s like you got a chance with the hottest and best woman of your dreams, but she dumped you like a 32 bit VST because you had no idea how to behave or handle her.

There are two kinds of people in the world. And you're not one of them.

I tried out Reaper a couple years ago. The MIDI editing just seemed fundamentally wonky to me; the cursor/tool behavior was intrinsically contextual and would constantly switch based on where your cursor was pointing. No other DAW I have, or have tried, does things this way. Maybe I could have gotten used to it? But I hated it. I like being able to select my tool action with keyboard shortcuts and stay that way until I decide to change it. As I work primarily with MIDI this was a deal breaker.
OTOH, I did like Reaper's stability, small footprint, and CPU efficiency. (Maybe someday there will be a script to make it act like a normal MIDI editor??)

A well-behaved signature.

The link below describes the input quantize issues in detail. Reaper is unusually good in that it is updated frequently (monthly?). However, this particular bug has existed since 2015! I'm on v6.07 and it's stilling dropping notes with the VSTis I use regularly (Sugar Bytes, AIR, Waves).

i tried reaper a few year ago and i found it ugly, not very well stable, buggy and poor with midi edition. I tried V6 a few week ago and i fall in love.the build in plugin are pretty good, it is stable and have a good workflow (just for information i m coming from cubase 10...). AND i can use it under osx 10.6.8 !

...you know it keeps on working even if you don't pay within the delineated free trial period right? I mean I have bought it twice over the years but I just might have used it quite a bit beyond the trial period before I finally paid the first time...arkmabat wrote: Sun Apr 12, 2020 2:35 pm I left Reaper after the free trial because I didn't have a job at the time.

Don't know why people are comparing Linux to Reaper. I use Linux and don't find the program particularly enthralling. I use Ubuntu because there is little headache and don't care about extreme customizability in my OS or DAW.
I do use Reaper, but mostly because it's affordable, runs on my OS, and hits the checkboxes for features I want in working with multitrack audio. Like a few other people here said, I generally don't do much midi work in it. (I typically use Renoise for that and yeah I am 3 of the stereotypes in that recent music radar article that got quoted above)

Well... all is relative...johnwoo wrote: Sun Apr 12, 2020 5:08 pm It open only one folder at the time , Studio One open in cascade , you can see all ....
In S1, I can hardly see the content of a single folder without a scroll fest because of being everything just in one row...
There you´ve got in Reaper much better overview...
Nevertheless I agree it would be nice to have a folder tree option as was requested already many times...

Reaper was too grim for me.
(actually I use Reaper a fair bit, but its default templates are indeed a bit grim/dour looking! So I made my own colour schemes)

I leave Reaper to do audio quantise in Cubase. I prefer to work in Reaper but when it comes to aligning audio tracks I only have one option. As time goes on I'm getting more comfortable with Cubase so I'm doing more and more there. Who knows, one day I may completely move to Cubase. I still find Reaper fits my workflow better though.

Regarding Studio One (to go a bit offtopic
): One thing I think it definitely needs is some GUI fine tuning. The track inspector, for example, is cluttered now, and, it can't even be viewed fully, with every elements that's in there, on any resolution lower than 1920 x 1080. It simply leaves out the elements it can't display then. That's really bad. Either it needs an option like Cubase has, to hide and show elements, or, they need add sort of a "responsive" design, so that the elements get a new layout, when the screen space is not sufficient.

I have several daws (yeah , call me "daw collector"
) , mostly i am on Cubase 10.5 Pro. In addition to this i own Studio One 4 , Bitwig 8 Track, Sonar Platinum (bought it some time ago
, Matrix View is nice..) , also own Reason 10 and tried Reaper. I also tried Daws like Mixcraft 9(nice btw!). But in Reaper it doesnt feel comfortable if you are working with multitimbral plugins . Midi-Department is maybe not the best part of Reaper .One thing didnt work that good was Halion Sonic 3 as a VST3 version (crashing always), you have to use the VST2 version, but not a big thing. But some things are really great, the small installation size, no stock instrument plugins, very stable, very good at rendering and multicore support, very fast gui and things like chordgun and other goodies, generous trial period. Maybe i will jump onto the bitwig train, i like the poly grid and workflow of bitwig.
