Cubase 10: Freeze question

Let's say I have a 10 minute project and in this project I have a track with a sound at minute 1 and again at minute 9 (ie, the VSTi/VSTs are completely inactive for ~8 minutes). When I freeze this track in Cubase does it render the entire 10 minute section or is it intelligent enough to only render where there isn't silence?
I assume this is the function of the tail selection. However I'm not sure if this applies to the very end or during each audible range.

And a second question.
Let's say I'm using the Sampler with a percussive element such as a snare. I assume freezing this track would use more RAM because it's now rendering an entire section to audio as opposed to the 1/2 second single percussive hit, and this far outweighs any benefit of unloading a Sampler instance.

I'm not too familiar with freezing virtual instruments, but, the way I always imagined it, there are audio files in the project folder for the frozen parts, so, if you want to know what's going on, you can check those audio files, I think.

Whenever I freezed(?) something in Cubase it frozed(?) the whole part. If this is not what you want, just snip it.

Thanks. This is what I expect it happening which means I'm probably worse off than before. I thinking isolating individual parts and rendering seperately is the safest way. Then disabling the original track and dumping into an Archive folder or similar.

I'm nearing the end of a project and it has starting glitching so I'm rendering/freezing where possible.

Yes and no. I'm concerned about RAM not HDD spacechk071 wrote: Mon Apr 13, 2020 12:31 pm What I meant is if you're concerned about disk space, because you don't want the whole length to be frozen, but only the parts which contain actual audio.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the entire frozen track is loaded into RAM right? So this means for every frozen track roughly 150MB is loaded into RAM and given I easily have upward up 20 frozen tracks at a time this is 3GB.

So yes I've answered by own question thanks to a little tip from chk. The freeze folder does contain files of varying sizes and they tie to the duration of the respective parts. Therefore Cubase does only render where there is audio.
