You can also get it for about $6 a month rent-to-own from Splice, which I'm doing…and learning to like it quite a lot!

I own Captain Plugins and was wondering if their roadmap might include something like Hexachord Producer's randomization? (I tried HP and like it, even if it's a rip-off of CP in general, the randomizer produced some nice output for me.. But unfortunately also some bugs and I've read about their update history being inconsistent)

Post

Despite what I said above (about walking away from Orb Producer due to the developer's questionable promotion period policy), I went ahead and tested the fixed version of Hexachords' Orb Producer Suite. What can I say; sitting around the house makes a person desperate for diversion. And to be honest, I like it.

Yes, it's very similar to the Captain plugin suite conceptually, but its randomization features are both more robust and of a different character and feel, so I don't find it overly duplicative. I find Captain more polished -- Orb Producer's UI is still a bit wonky at times for me, and, at least as of this writing, OP doesn't have some features, like moving notes within the plugin window, that are very useful -- but I do find OP's random output inspirational for further tweaking. And it seems to work fine as a midifx plugin in Logic, at least so far.

As I noted in my previous post, I was very reluctant to pay 99 euro when the version available during the promotional period didn't work in Logic. I thought it ridiculous that, once Hexachords fixed the problems that rendered it unusable (and untestable), the promotional period had already expired. However, even though the 20-euro-off coupon that Hexachords sent to its mailing list back in mid-March supposedly expired already (it was supposed to last only for 15 days), I tried it on a whim, and it actually worked, bringing the price down to the 79 euro promotional price. At that price, it was worth it to me, so even though I hate to reward such gamesmanship, I'm now an owner of the Orb Producer suite. I hope they continue to develop and refine the plugins, but I think I can get 79 euro of use out of it even if development stalls altogether, so I'm happy.

Looks like Scaler 2 will be released this month.
I am expecting a major new features release!
I bought Scaler 1 on sale late in 2019 in anticipation to move up to V2 more economically.

I am not spending any money an any midi plugins until I see what Scaler 2 brings to the table.

Also waiting to see the release of a Chord Creator by https://evabeat.com

Here is small video I just made using Phrasebox. Its more of a how-to or how-I-use it type of video. I plan on making some more so any feedback you can give me (either here or at YouTube) will be helpful. I hope you like it.

Thanks for the video.
Very informative.
May try your method sometime soon.

More and more I discover how VERY powerful and capable
the MidiFX (Arpegiator, Randomizer etc.) and the
Midi Transformer (Humanize, Note Transpose etc.) in
Logic Pro are.
A complete playground for interesting Midi manipulation.

Hi

Chord Prism now 50% off at ADSR - $30.

https://www.adsrsounds.com/product/soft ... generator/

I was waiting to see what Scaler 2 brings before buying something else, but have to say I’m tempted by this.

Post

Looks like May 27, 2020 for the Scaler 2 release.

Will be released by Plugin Boutique.

Now what to do regarding the Chord Prism $30 sale?
My feeling right this minute is to pass it up.
If someone comes up for a compelling reason to get it I will then change my mind.

Bravo—thanks, keep ‘em coming!

Yes - very helpful - thanks!!

One quick question - what do the different shades of blue in each of the lanes represent? Some of the horizontal lines are darker than others . . . .

Post

I don't believe the shading of the lanes themselves have any meaning other than to break things up visually.

My compelling reason to buy Chord Prism was the price
So I decide to release some GAS and buy it.

I don't recall any previous mention of the latest addition to Toybox, the Reaktor Blocks collection with lots of sequencing modules. The newest one is a quite remarkable Piano Roll Block, pretty much a classic DAW-type piano roll interface at minimum, but with a wide range of rather stunning and unique new features as a result of being part of a modular environment, and having a lot of interesting inputs, plus of course a lot of intriguing modules to patch into it. There's a very good basic demo of it doing surprising things here with no extra inputs:

And if you like what you see there (I did! :o ), there's quite a bit more to see starting around 1:10:00 in the livestream from the builder, here, all about adding other blocks to drive the piano roll:

It's a stream—and clearly a long one—and unedited, but I sat up quite a few times with excitement at what I was seeing, esp starting around 1:17:08 and 1:26:35…

[I know you can save/share these YT time-links somehow; anybody got a link to where that's explained? Thanks!]

THIS is closest thing I've seen yet to matching the sort of fantasies I had when I first heard of Architect, fwiw.

I don't think he ever shows it, but it's very easy to add a MIDI Out block to this or any other Reaktor device that creates MIDI data, for hooking up other plugins inside a DAW or from stand-alone with a MIDI loopback device.
