Sonic Charge's Microtonic drum synth & sequencer has 1,000s of v weird drum patterns to play with - free.
The latest version has an updated GUi and other good stuff.
Great for experimental drum sounds.
Some might say it's still the original and the best.

No worries... Take a bit of tweaking but you can get some great results.

I'd recommend Jeskola Buzz if you're into sonic exploration.worldfever wrote: Mon Apr 13, 2020 4:37 pmJust curious to hear what your secret weapons are. Can be anything, I'm looking for new, creative, off-kilter, inspiring software to check out. Atm I really like the reaktor ensembles by blinksonic, zynaptiq MORPH and slate and ash CYCLES.
any recommendations?

The Microtonic Patternarium is certainly free, but Microtonic itself is $99 plus vat.kevvvvv wrote: Tue Apr 14, 2020 3:05 pm Sonic Charge's Microtonic drum synth & sequencer has 1,000s of v weird drum patterns to play with - free.

Try using full buckets Modulair, you can insert wav files and then all the modules to mess up some stuff.

Pretty much everything by Sugar Bytes. Aparillo has already been mentioned; see also Obscurium, which is definitely unique. There's nothing else out there like it, especially when you use it to drive VST notes & parameters.

Going modular.
Technique.
Working fast and loose and spontaneously.
Treating my software plugins like they're modular hardware, and processing my hardware with software plugins.
Manually playing a lot of stuff, including manually controlling simple sequences and loops.
Lots of FM, mostly 2-op. Ratios that are just a little off, where possible.
Resonators and feedback loops and Karplus-Wrong.
The sound of PLLs failing to keep up.
Mid-side processing (and mid-side EQ to keep phase correlation in check)
Dark delays with lots of repeats.
Saturation. Pushing things a little too much.
Taking inspiration from lo-fi tape/vinyl/BBDs/samplers, without specifically trying to imitate anything in particular.

Indeed, i own it since years and often use it not for a month to explore it again then. The most unusual FX i own but also the most unique. Followed by B2 reverb its a universe of creativity.
Otherwise Sculpture and Alchemy inside Logic are my favorites since they both are very unique in what they do and how they do it (Sculpture) or they have unique FX i heard in no other synth or even third party plug-in (Alchemy).
Then there are a few special iOS apps doing things you won‘t find in any desktop plug-in.
Oh, there are just too many innovative things to choose the best.
If i had to choose one, Kaleidoscope!

Serum is very innovative if you use its modulators for some crazy stuff.
