For features, sound and value for money I can't really fault Toneboosters EQ4.

Transparent: Right now Neutron 3 Elements can be had free at Plugin Boutique and its EQ is as clean as Pro-Q.

Character: That's a tough one... there's lots.

Agree to those above & Adding: Luftikus & QRange to the List.

Not always. S1 doesn't have the Q control for Low/High cut, for instance.

The free EQ from Melda (is that MEqualiser?). It is surprisingly feasible. For a freebie, I think it is unsurpassed in terms of versatility. ...but I can understand others saying TDR Nova. Nova also looks very good.

Of course ProQ3 from FabFilter or the toneboosters EQ.

Low cost options
General EQ needs: ToneBoosters EQ, Voxengo Gliss or PrimeEQ
Any PSP eq (when on sale)
McDSP 6020 ultimate EQ ($29 best option right now) https://www.mcdsp.com/plugin-index/6020-ultimate/

Some special ones (emulations)
DDMF 6144 (black friday 50% off)
Any Sonimus one (neve, ssl, tilt...)
Any Waves emu is alright

Not low cost options
FabFilter ProQ3
Slate subscription (around $149 a year, right now $99)
DMG Equick, EQuality or EQuilibrium

I would particularly dodge all Plugin Alliance eqs, but that's just me.
