I am wondering if it is worth it to get the upgrade to v4 from v3 of Sampletank? Is the sample content that much better?

If you're talking MAX, then yes, there's a boatload of new content and much of it is very, very good. Of course, maybe you don't need another grand piano, but the one in ST4 is most impressive. Then there's a load of synth content that beats even that in Syntronic. ST4 can have six oscillators of sample layers in playback vs. two in Syntronic. There's much more. Check out the full list of included instruments here:

I would not be getting the Max version (I wish!), just the regular ST4.

Is there a way to load the old SampleTron files (thumbnails included) to SampleTank 4?

ST4 Max is now on sale and you can get it for about $120 with using Jam points. If you aren't already ready invested in a ecosystem like Komplete, it would be a great deal.

Via S3 is how I did it. It has to be converted to ST3 format before it can be imported into ST4. AFAIK. I still use the 'Strawberry Fields' flute patch in my main template.

You could think of getting Total Studio 2 Max Crossgrade for an even better deal. It comes with ST4 SE, which will load all the previous stuff, and give you 30 GB additional content, and a rescalable interface.

Yes, but you need to Import them into the ST3 sounds library first. you can use SampleTank Custom Shop v3.7.3 for that. But you do not get the thumbnails (which is a shame).Mastering7 wrote: Mon Apr 20, 2020 12:38 pm Is there a way to load the old SampleTron files (thumbnails included) to SampleTank 4?

Thanks, actually that's what I ended up doing. It was much more than that in file size though. I checked my downloads folder and it was a little over 100 gigs of zip files, and that's without downloading the ST3 samples as I had those already.LoveEnigma18 wrote: Mon Apr 20, 2020 12:49 pm You could think of getting Total Studio 2 Max Crossgrade for an even better deal. I bought sampletank 3 some years before 4 came out. Then I also bought st4.
Long story short, eventually I uninstalled v4 which is a bloated mess but still have v3.
I don't use any of them anymore because for realistic acoustic instruments, you better have seperate kontakt libraries/vsts for each category, and for general midi box for sketchings there are way more cheaper and better alternatives (xpand, triton, xv5080..)
Amyway, I perosnally liked the ui and presets of sampletank 3 way more than st4, plus it works way faster and doesn't have an endless amount of bugs.
So I would say stick to v3.
Sampletank is a jack of all trades and master of none anyway, so I would suggest to save the money for something else.

Oh and something that just poped to my head, if you do upgrade to version 4, prepare yourself to one of the most exhausting and primitive downloading+installation process ever that will require you to manually download, unzip and install more than 100 files one by one
