Step Sequencer

Hey everyone... I am looking for a step sequencer that has midi out, so I can drive and plug in or midi synth. There are many available but most are way more complex or complicated than I want or need. My favorite period is the one on the RePro 1, but it does not have midi out or cut/paste. Please let me know recommendations.
Thanks

There are many types / formats of step sequencers out there; but since you mention Repro-1, I'm assuming you mean the kind that does non-timed note input to generate a sequence, a la the SH-101 sequencer? (There are many step seq programs out there that have no such functionality, and are based on programming the sequencer itself, not 'playing in' notes on a keyboard the way RePro can). Of this 'play it in' sort, there are few to none. The best I've seen is a Reason rack-extension called "Sequences", which operates very much like the Repro sequencer, but with more more control on moving notes around after you've tapped them in. But I imagine you're looking for a VST....and dang, I can't think of a single sequencer VST plugin that does that, actually....surely they exist, though? Following....

SugarBytes/SonicBytes had a cool straightforward one called Era2,
but it seems to have become this->

SugarBytes- if u read this, is it OK distribute Era2?

I can give u a link to this->

I tried consequence a while back. It has way too much stuff going on for what I am wanting. I will look into Reason sequences and try the demo. I really work better without too many parameters. Sometimes it just gets in the way of making music.

I highly suggest you check out the various sequencers of Hy Plugins. They make some great ones. There are a few here:

As I've yet to try Repro, I can't say if they are similar at all. Admittedly, my suggestion might be more parameters than what you are seeking.

I think he's specifically looking for one that allows you to 'play in' a pattern on the keys, like the sequencers in the SH-101 and Pro-One. These allow you to play a series of notes that are 'recorded' into the sequencer, though there is no timing, so you can play them however badly you want, it just aligns the series of notes you play across the fixed grid. From what I've seen of the Hy plugins, they are all about the other kind of 'step sequencer' -- the kind you program with a mouse, entering and editing steps.!jC wrote: Fri Apr 17, 2020 4:33 am I highly suggest you check out the various sequencers of Hy Plugins. Yeah I tried the HY. They seem good just not at all what I want. MHolloway is right. I want basically an updated plugin stand-alone version of an old school step sequencer. It’s ok to be able to program but it’s best to play in what you want then slur or tie a couple notes and a great mono sequencer makes magic from it.
I’ll look into SequencAir and give it a try.
Thanks everyone for the feedback.

Thesys by Sugar Bytes can do this.WindMonk wrote: Fri Apr 17, 2020 5:31 am ... I want basically an updated plugin stand-alone version of an old school step sequencer. It is currently on sale.

Well I went ahead and checked out Thesys.... and while the note input is cool and the thing is relatively simple, it doesn't offer note Ties nor slides, and while I could live without slides, I don't even see the point of a step sequencer without Ties. Every note will play at the chosen grid, always. Pretty damn limiting. Even the little RePro sequencer has ties. Sigh.

Damn... yeah I agree about the ties. I’ll still try it out. But but all of the simple ones I’ve tried don’t have slur/slide/tie and the others are just too much... I would pay to have just a midi version of the Repro sequencer

Thesys goes about this a little differently than other sequencers. The Gate and the Gate Multiplier are key here. On the default settings, if a particular step has a gate =1 then the note plays for a step's length. If the gate is =4 then the note is held for 4 steps. To keep the next notes from triggering just click below the velocities and that will mark an "X"next to each note not producing a trigger. This in effect is like a tie. Well, with one small difference, the multiply slider. If you ratchet this up to 8 then that note will play for 32 steps. Of course your sound source may have something to say about that.mholloway wrote: Fri Apr 17, 2020 10:33 pm Well I went ahead and checked out Thesys.... and while the note input is cool and the thing is relatively simple, it doesn't offer note Ties nor slides, and while I could live without slides, I don't even see the point of a step sequencer without Ties. As far as slide goes there does not seem to be an obvious choice but I believe you can set the portamento values in the modulation section at the bottom. Won't this get you the glide/slide from note-to-note? Honestly I haven't tried...
