John Peel died today from a heart attack while on holiday in Peru with his wife.

John Peel meant a lot to me. More than anyone he inspired me to write music. When I was growing up I was just starting to listen to music, John Peel's show was the most amazing thing I had ever heard. He was the reason I fell in love with music. I could never of imagined what music could be without his influence.

The man was a true genius. I will miss him dearly.

hehe another thread :)

Yeah same here Craig, I never listened to him regularly but it was always an experience, full of new musical ideas. He was one of the first DJs who promoted
Pink Floyd in the Sixties, in 1999 he made me love Broadcast. That's what I call true influence.I hope there will be other DJs to fill that gap, but it's getting hard in this age of hyper formatted "Radio" stations isn't it? I don't know about the UK situation but where I live we have exactly *one* station worth listening to.
But I'm rambling,..

It's a shame he's gone, but at least he didn't suffer from some horrible illness, R.I.P.

I never heard his programs but he seemed like a spectacular person. RIP.

Rest In Peace? Actually I hope he goes somewhere they're playing something loud, banging and original.

A true champion of music and one of the very few people in the public eye who actually cared about music. The world needs more people like him, not fewer.

Depressingly, the Peel Radio 1 show can now be considered dead. Home Truths will probably run and run. There ain't no justice.
