Inear Display and Glitchmachines' entire lineups are pretty out there. Second (or third?) Freakshow Industries, although in my experience they work better if you're doing pure experimentation with them as opposed to intentionally trying to dial in something specific.

Probably my go-to right now is Blue Cat's Late Replies with various stuff inserted into the feedback loop. Can quickly drum up some evolving weirdness with that. Also HY-Plugins MBMFX2 can do some crazy stuff in multiple frequency bands at once (as can the various Melda "MB" version plugins).

Mux modular deserves a mention. They just added an XY pad and automatic plugin delay compensation for all your vsts and vstis (amongst other things).

I recently started playing around with the Waves MultiMod Rack like crazy mostly for drum mangling. You can choose a different distortion for each frequency range and modulate every parameter

can you use this on external hardware synths?

It's an fm synth, there's no audio input.

its absolutely fan-freaking-tastic for drones and ambient soundscapes. load up your own samples for extra fun!
Thanks for recommending this! Just downloaded and tried it, and it sounds wonderful, full of dark feeling, underground paved tunnels...

Native Instruments: Form
Really cool When you load your own recorded samples: noise From construction sites, household, etc. You van create melodic stufF or percussive loops.

+1 for sugarbytes Aparillo (and Factory)

Unfiltered Audio SpecOps, Fault, Sandman Pro, and Triad each can do some crazy stuff.

Melda's MTransformer, MCharacter, MGranularMB and MCombMB all get a lot of use from me in tearing stuff up.

Izotope's Trash 2 covers a lot of ground, and it is still damn effective.

DtBlkFx and Paul Stretch are not easy to customize, but they can make for unique results.

Tritik's Moodal is nice to augment sounds.

More reverbs and delays could be mentioned, but I'll stop there.
I'm a big fan of the Unfiltered stuff. Trash as well, though I'd be hoping to see an update on that one soon. Just to bring it inline with their current aesthetics and offer us some new features as well. I can say the same for BreakTweaker and StutterEdit.

I'm liking Waves Ovox at the moment, well VocalSynth too. NI released their Raum reverb recently, which is quite cool, though I'd expect to see a more "fully featured" version of that to be released soon. Arturia's Rev Intensity and Delay Eternity are pretty creative if your looking for reverb and delay options. Consider their Filters as well.

Oh I'm also liking Berzerk and the MDMX distortion plugins, especially when hosted inside Wave's MultiMod. Effectively making it a multiband distortion effect. Kind of like their take on Trash.

as a Win10 user I am incredibly jealous of these mac-only plugins

I don't know what you mean. It is a software synth that comes as both a VST plugin and a standalone softsynth you can use without any host software but you still need a computer to make it work.
