They don't really recommend the use of dongles, but I have the original, red Reason dongle, a Codemeter in disguise, and it never caused problems in years.
SSL Duende was also using Codemeter in the past, after they ditched the hardware. I had two systems with it and it was fine. SSL changed to iLok 2/3 though.

I followed the instructions here https://register.vps-avenger.com/
V-manager made it easy.

FYI, the Reason Intro version doesn't require CodeMeter, just your Prop login. Have determined not to upgrade to the full version due to CodeMeter.

I technically still have Avenger 1.4.whatever, but I am loath to use it in any of my projects as I am not convinced that VPS will actually keep around whatever mechanism they used to activate it prior to CodeMeter, and then if I have to do an OS reinstall or move to a new computer...? I can't be the only person who wants perpetual licenses to stick around at least as long as the underlying technology still works, so I can revisit old projects without wondering whether the plugins they depend on will now arbitrarily stop working due to some crazy licensing scheme that has nothing to do with the actual core functioning of the plugin...

Same, still using the old red one + hardware auth/unauth all day long without trouble (unless their server goes down)

Sad to see this thing get more popular. Not because it gives me problem, but the implementation by audio dev is all over the place (unlike say, ilok where at least you have some baseline and clear indication in the manager)

Yeah, if you go onto your account page, there's no way to activate version 1.4, no way to download 1.4, no way to download the 1.4 XPs. At least, from what I could tell.

I just looked and I don't see a way to download the pre-codemeter version either. So they took my money and removed my ability to use the product going forward if I need to do a re-install.

How is that legal or even ethical ? I'd request a refund of the purchase price but I know that would be futile.

(EDIT: I just sent them a request for a refund. I'm sure it will be denied but if everybody does the same it may make an impression).

EDIT 2: I got the following response:

"we have not removed it. You can have a 1.4.10 version ANYTIME from keilwerth@vengeance-sound.com

refunds are only possible in a 2 week time window after order"

I have sent a request to the address above to download 1.4.10 and have asked if it can still be authorized. If not that is defacto theft in my book.

Gee, that sounds familiar, at least it’s a small operation doing the rip off. Still sux big time.

Well Vengeance banned me for giving their employees the same treatment they gave me. They will no longer provide support and they will not process a license transfer which is fine since I wouldn't even give them the money for the transfer fee.

So I'd urge Caveat Emptor when dealing with these pompous d-bags.

Hey Vengeance since you seem to be reading these threads.....GFY. :tu:

FWIW, I just opened avenger and received the no license message. So I downloaded v-man, hit update license and was up and running in under a minute. I feel bad for anyone who's having issues, I hate it when software doesn't work (especially creative software), but over here at least it was pretty simple to sort out.

The point for me is I'm not installing the Codemeter malware on my studio computer. It's a running process and loads at startup. It does me no good whatsoever so I consider it malware and I'm simply not going to infect my studio system with it.

It's a third party app that Vengeance has no control over and they have no idea what it's really doing (telemetry?). If there is a bug or issue with CM then Vengeance can't fix it.

So to me VPS Avenger is a write off. I still have the last non-codemeter version installed but won't use it any longer since it's dead ended and I found it to be a bit buggy.

That's ok, Vengeance takes its place on the list of companies I will no longer support along with ReFx and Tone 2 since they all seem to have an attitude problem dealing with paying customers.

I'll be using Parawave Rapid instead. Great plugin with a non-intrusive copy protection scheme and a developer who seems to know how to treat people who give him money. :tu:
