as I said before - nothing there that cant be done in Riffer (maybe stretch? I missed what was happening there) - probably that piano roll can do others, certainly Riffer can do a lot more than that video shows. But if you like working with Reaktor blocks then the Toybox deal looks fantasticCalenberger wrote: Sun Apr 19, 2020 11:34 amYou can buy it separately for a bit less than 50 bucks currently.Kalamata Kid wrote: Sun Apr 19, 2020 8:34 am Saw this video
Toybox - Piano Roll Introduction
It revived my interest in the Piano Roll.
If only the Piano Roll was sold separately!
Just grab the synth bundle and delete all other blocks.
It should be worth it for you!![]()

hard for me to make out exactly what is going on there - but similar sorts of modulations are possible. What would be harder is manipulating individual positions in the same way - if that is what is happening. But Riffer has a lot of modulation potential, which people seem not to notice.Calenberger wrote: Sun Apr 19, 2020 11:54 amRiffer can do this?fairlyclose wrote: Sun Apr 19, 2020 11:50 amas I said before - nothing there that cant be done in Riffer (maybe stretch? But the Toybox is going to be different, it will have its own set of outcomes that are more and less easily achieved compared to something like Riffer. And there will be lots of overlap. But dont underestimate Riffer based on what seems to often be a fairly basic use of its capabilities.
As I said before, if you like using Reaktor blocks then all the toybox offerings looks great value
EDIT - looking again I think they are just switching between patterns as the main variation - if that is the case then I'm pretty sure you could do that using Riffer and something like Melda CCGenerator

I think they do not simply switch patterns but modulate (via the Kodiak block on top) timing and pitch of of one pattern locked to a specific scale. And that's pretty unique imo.

Riffer can modulate timing - which they call quantising - but they are the usual fixed values eg 1/8, 1/4t etc. If that is what you mean by timing, there is also "shuffle" and and transpose whilst keeping the scale locked. You can make your own scales as well , and by making a scale of say ggg e f# you are setting probability of the notes as wellCalenberger wrote: Sun Apr 19, 2020 12:35 pm I think they do not simply switch patterns but modulate (via the Kodiak block on top) timing and pitch of of one pattern locked to a specific scale. None of which means it is easier or harder than the Toybox piano roll for achieving some aims as against others.
I am still exploring all of this in Riffer - and some things seem straightforward and others not so much. But Riffer really isn't what most people think it is - it can be incredibly abstract whilst tightly controlled at the same time.

Keep in mind that Riffer 2 is the current verion but most of the videos show the first version.
Not sure what new features have been added to V2.

Not clear to me what is going on.
Perhaps something like this at 0:56?

Hi!
Toybox and riffer... both look very cool! I have riffer 2 and as mentioned above it has a few tricks up its sleeve (I hardly remember those myself!). The toybox piano roll seems to be a little more controlled chaos (?) as far as the note stretching and moving fluidly. Riffer sometimes like to be more over the top random, so you have to constrain a number of parameters for the more subtle modulations with pitch, etc. I’m a huge fan of riffer, but that gtr pluck demo above made me take notice of this toybox thing

had another look at the Toolbox piano roll and I am pretty much sold on it from this video - does a stack of things Riffer does not do or does them in an easier fashion. And Riffer has its own thing that is good but different. So very much complementary products

Check out Octacontrol for midi manipulation.
Currently $29. Requires Reaktor.
Tempting but thought never seen it lower I will wait.
What would be a good alternative?

If Unify could add a few midi X-Y pads that could almost rival Octacontrol?
