TBProAudio has released DSEQ, a dynamic processor working in the frequency domain. DSEQ is removing digital harshness on the fly thanks to self-adjusting frequency bands.

DSEQ can be used in all mix and master situations:
  • de-essing vocals
  • taming resonances in e.g. drum, guitar, vocal recordings
  • removing digital harshness
  • balancing the mix
  • de-masking frequency regions
  • support of pink noise mixing/mastering

DSEQ offers following features:
  • smooth linear phase dynamic filter
  • full frequency range processing, 10Hz – 22kHz
  • 4 different quality modes: eco, normal, high and ultra
  • left/right and mid/side processing
  • global slope for detector signal (e.g. pink noise mixing/mastering)
  • 12 independent pre-filter bands
  • side-chain support
  • multiple signal monitoring modes (pre-filter, delta, side chain)
  • multiple spectrum analyzing modes (stereo, left, right, mid, side)
  • perceptual loudness matching (powered by AB-LM Lite)
  • extended input/output meter, Peak/RMS/EBU/VU
  • narrow-band sweeping mode
  • sample exact A/B toggle for all processing modes
  • sample rates min. up to 192 kHz
  • "real" over sampling, up to 4x
  • EQ cheat sheets
  • precise parameter input
  • easy to use GUI
  • GUI resize up to 2x
  • preset management
  • full DAW automation support
  • 64-bit internal processing
  • very efficient CPU usage design

System Requirements:
  • Windows XP or newer
  • Mac OS X 10.9 or newer
  • Win: 32/64 Bit VST, 32/64 Bit VST3, 32 Bit RTAS
  • OS X: 32/64 Bit VST, 32/64 Bit VST3, 32/64 Bit AU, 32 Bit RTAS
  • Tested with: Reaper, Cubase/Nuendo/Wavelab, FL Studio, ProTools, Logic Pro X, Ableton, Studio One, Reason, Bitwig

So how is it different (& better) from Soothe or Gullfoss?

I understand it does similar thing, at least for my limited comprehension:)

That's misleading. It's EUR 97.17, because there's VAT added.

And where are you?

And regardless, it even says in their shop: eur79 (plus VAT)

So what is misleading if it says plus VAT? I am in Canada, and YOU'RE misleading.

Awesome! I've been waiting for this. Congrats on the release. A few feature requests, Would it be possible to display the attack and and release in milliseconds? The possibility of faster attack and release times and qualities higher than Ultra. I'm guessing the quality parameter is the FFT size? So higher FFT sizes would be nice. I would love to see how far I can push this thing regardless of the CPU hit.

Edit: GUI scalability too.

The POST I quoted is misleading, not the shop, obviously. It says here it is 80eur, you go to the shop and it's almost 100eur. That's actually the ethymology of missLEADING :)

Thank you!
  • Attack&Release in ms: well, no. Because there are thousands of dynamic EQs in DSEQ. dynEQs with lower frequency have longer attack/release times, with higher frequencies shorter attack/release times. All of them are controlled with just the 2 parameter...
  • High quality modes: hmm, higher FFT size leads to more plugin delay and more stepped attacked/release curve due to longer FFT blocks.
  • GUI resize: is there, just click on the DSEQ logo.

Post

ah, I see! Didn't know about the GUI resize, sorry about that.

Can you please elaborate on what's the difference (and advantage) of DSEQ over Soothe, Gullfoss or iZotope's Spectral Shaper? I'm not advanced enough to understand if they're even doing the same thing - I think they are? - not to mention to decide how is one better than the other?

I'm in a market for a tool to "smooth out" my music and would like to make an informed choice :)

Maybe you try DSEQ yourself? The demo is fully functional (except audio drop every 90 secs).
Start with any material you have, load default preset and pull threshold down. That's basically all.
If you have competition on board, comparison is then done in a minute...

Ok, I’m playing devil’s advocate here: what exactly is “digital harshness” (except from being a marketing buzzword)?
If you mean aliasing from e.g. nonlinear processes and the plugin can remove that, I’d be impressed af ;)
Okay, I’ll stop being a d*** now!
Might be worth a try! Would be interesting to know whether this is more in the direction of gullfoss (which I have) or soothe (which for my needs is too expensive).
