My impression also.
Octacontrol still works.
I assume.
I will consider it at a lower price.

i like "midi ex machina" but i wonder about how it does its randomization. is it truly random or does it try to be "melodically" random?
if midi ex machina does not randomize truly....are there any other randomizers that are "true random" instead of "pseudo random"?

I don't see that Octacontrol is still available to buy anywhere; did I miss something?Kalamata Kid wrote: Tue Apr 21, 2020 1:23 pm My impression also.

I saw it for $29 somewhere recently.
But then I bet it was an old ad that I saw.
Oh, here, I found it

Well…WOW!
As I watched the early sections I kept thinking of other chord plugins that this is kicking to the ground, until at the end I was seeing that this has actually moved out of that category and is nosing into the realm of composition apps, like RapidComposer. Not yet as full featured as that one, by any means, but way more elegant and easier to use—Impressed! And itching:)

Yeah, that was in the original link a few posts back. But try it and it doesn't work; no cart loading, no longer in the "Shop".Kalamata Kid wrote: Wed Apr 22, 2020 9:41 pm ^^^

I actually still have Octacontrol from back then and as I recall I didn't ever use it much (I'm stuck away from my main storage drives right now so I can't revisit it, sadly…). It looked great, but there are plenty of other, newer mega-modulation devices and workflows that are as good or better these days.

MExM is as random as the random seed, and random functions allow it to be. There's no melodical or rhythmical steering going on other than the note size/scale value weightings. Look out for V2 sometime this decade (hopefully sooner)harryupbabble wrote: Wed Apr 22, 2020 5:44 pm i like "midi ex machina" but i wonder about how it does its randomization. is it truly random or does it try to be "melodically" random?

Yes, looks way more interesting than Scaler 1. Upgrade policy?David wrote: Wed Apr 22, 2020 9:53 pmWell…WOW!

I bought Scaler 1 in anticipation of the Scaler 2 release hoping it would the more economical route to the upgrade.
I read some where that it will be $29 for the upgrade but cannot recall if that was the official announcement.

looking around there is going to be some sort of upgrade price - also there is a beta if you want to join that. I will wait to see some tutorials etc I thinkKalamata Kid wrote: Wed Apr 22, 2020 11:42 pm I bought Scaler 1 in anticipation of the Scaler 2 release hoping it would the more economical route to the upgrade.

I prefer "melodically" random but will like to able to choose truly random.harryupbabble wrote: Wed Apr 22, 2020 5:44 pm i like "midi ex machina" but i wonder about how it does its randomization. is it truly random or does it try to be "melodically" random?

In any case it would be great if the developer stated how their app is randomized.

With all MExM sliders set to 1, you have a bank of 'x' number of notes, or note lengths to pick from - these are chosen with Lua's native random function. Changing a slider value to say 5, gives a bank of 5 of those notes/lengths, and 1 of everything else to randomly select from. It's crude but effective. Setting a new randomseed every now and again helps keeps the output unpredictable. There are better randomising algo's out there, but I'm really not a maths guy : )Kalamata Kid wrote: Thu Apr 23, 2020 2:45 amI prefer "melodically" random but will like to able to choose truly random.harryupbabble wrote: Wed Apr 22, 2020 5:44 pm i like "midi ex machina" but i wonder about how it does its randomization. is it truly random or does it try to be "melodically" random?
