I think it's reasonably clear. Like the "never go full 11" rule, it explains the intent without going into excessive detail, which would be difficult to pin down anyway. Whatever the rule is, there will always be edge cases, which can be discussed if they come up. But having some general statement like that in the official rules would be a helpful starting point.RichardSemper wrote: Thu Apr 23, 2020 6:42 am This was my attempt to phrase it as clearly as possible. Its a difficult one: we know the object of this competition is about synthesis, and sampling is not allowed, but I feel we should be able to exploit wavetables with more than two single-cycle waveforms without it becoming mere sample playback. We don't want to cripple the power and functionality of wavetable synthesis with arbitrary rules, so this is more of a guidance and statement of intent. I would love to make it clearer if that is possible.

I originally used Bazille but I bought Komplete 12 maybe ten days ago. So I redid it using Massive X and added a section. No samples. ...it was close between the two. Massive X is just a bit more pleasant on the ears.

I went really heavy on the birds. Head of bed is right up against an open window and I listen to them every morning. Little flying singing dinosaurs. Such diverse songs. Not represented all that well in my track though I tried a bit.

Hi all, long time stalker here. Never entered before. Here's my attempt.
https://soundcloud.com/amc-strikes-agai ... IkcdXUzbmy
I used
Reveal Sound Spire 1.1 (16 instances) and
ReaEQ,
ReaDelay,
ReaXcomp and
Master Limiter,
all from Reaper DAW.
I have no idea why it is called "Chung", it was just what came out of my fingers when it was time to name the track.

After realising that everything I made was in 128bpm, I decided to change things up a bit with some DnB. Here's my track for this month: The Vortex, a tale about acceptance. I put a lot of work into this, hope you guys enjoy!
https://soundcloud.com/tensorman/the-vortex
This month, I chose ZynAddSubFX(https://zynaddsubfx.sourceforge.io/). It's a very powerful free synth that doesn't seem to get enough love compared to other synths like Surge. It's a beast capable of interesting sound design. It did crash a few times, but not enough to become a serious issue.
DAW: REAPER 6.03
Synth: ZynAddSubFX 3.0.0 (x37)
Plugins: Mostly REAPER plugins, with some third-party freebies
ReaComp (x13)
ReaEQ (x12)
Saturation (x5)
Master Limiter
Youlean Loudness Meter 2
ReaVerbate
MIDI Arpeggiator (x2)
Exciter (x2)
OTT (x3)
Soft Clipper/Limiter (x4)
MIDI Transpose Notes (x9)
Event Horizon Clipper
Waveshaping Distortion (x3)
I'd like to thank the people on Slack and the people who comment on my tracks. You've all helped me improve a lot

Hello!
Here I finally have something for this month's challenge after trying out two other ideas. Normally I commit on the first try
https://soundcloud.com/medniex/osc-134-ver3-rev02
I jumped into extended trial version of Arturia's Pigment. My birds are more like R2D2 solo, but I hope it qualifies. I mean natural bird sound wouldn't fit anyway.
I'm going to make some improvements during this week so any feedback would be awesome.
[update]
Since I left this revision as it is, here' s the details:
DAW: Ableton Live
13 instances of Arturia' s Pigments
Host FX: Utility, EQ Eight, Reverb, Limiter, Auto Pan, Glue Sidechain
3rd party FX: Limiter6

Just a touch of EQ and a tickle of compression
