Lots! Which is probably why they chose to model a different rev to everyone else

There's also the Native Instruments VC 76, IK Multimedia Black 76, McDSP SST ’76, Slate FG-116, Waves CLA-76, Lindell 7X-500 and Stillwell Audio’s The Rocket if you're being a completionist....

With all these similar 1176 emulations out there, isn't it better to have a different take on it, like VLA-FET?

Just different is no value imho.

That's why I write so much here. I'm sincerely interesting to discover things in the FET that the typical 1176 is not capable of.

So far I only noticed things that it can not do. So when I'm honest I'm a bit disappointed with it, because for me the description sets wrong expectations.

It's just that I rather would like to skip the other 1176 emus I have and just want to use the FET for everything because of the super good sound quality it has. :-D. Which I can't because of the slower release for smashing drums.

But again not to give a false impression. The FET is a great compressor in my book otherwise. For gentle compression one of my favourites.

Okay, I have 9 compressors ready with 5 loops. Hardware was set as followed:
24dB in, 24dB out, attack 4, release 4, all buttons in.
Files were normalized to -3dB before pulled through hardware.
Hardware was MONO, so i had to pull the files through TWICE. I disengaged links on all plugins - or loaded them in Dual Mono config!

Want me to blind-test you or just throw it out there with names?
Compressors used:
- Hardware Distopik 1176
- VLA-FET
- Arturia 1176
- Plugin Alliance Purple MC77
- Softube FET Compressor
- Unisum preset "Vocal FET" tweaked
- Presswerk preset "1176 smash" tweaked
- PSP FET
- Pulsar Smasher

I didn't include LVC Tchain becasue it doesn't have all buttons in and i found it very difficult to match (harder than even presswerk and Unisum...), and i almost didn't include PSP FET for the same reason.

i'll refrain from my personal judgement for now, but i know what i'm buying next. :D

edit:
i also sent a 3 minutes worth of test tones through it.

Here we go:

the order is obviously different than in the post above :)
5 loops IN EACH OF 9 AUDIO FILES.
- Acoustic drums (Plexi kit), dirty open hihat loop
- Acoustic drums (I think spalted maple?) swingy, damped, from a session for a folkish song
- Acoustic drums (Plexi kit), tight closed hat loop (same session as loop1)
- Logic Pro Drummer, Drum Kit Designer - i think maple producer's kit.
- bass guitar, custom wired and stringed Yamaha TRB-4

Loops1 and 2 have plenty of room mic mixed it. Loop1 is ORTF Room, Loop2 is M/S. :)

Room itself is a 36m2, combination of normal porous absorbers, cut stone, wood diffusors, limp-mass membrane bass traps...

All loops were premixed, some more severely, some less.

If you want to blind yourself don't cheat with analysers, hardware is very easy to pick out with FFT or RX.

As already said, target was hardware 24dB in, 24dB out, attack 4, release 4, all buttons in, 100% wet.
I've tried to match them to best of my abilities without going crazy and wasting too much time on it (already spent around 4 hours on it lol). Some are a little faster than this particular hardware was, some were a little slower, so settings controls to "4" didn't really work :)

EDITED:!!
