Cubase Freeze issue

Was working on a project earlier, moderate ASIO load, about 30%, then suddenly the meter goes in the red and stays there. Project plays at triple speed and skips then goes back to normal.
I can carry on working, then change focus to mixer and it happens again.
I checked around online for any answers and someone suggested it was a Freeze issue. Well i'd just frozen three tracks with various VST's on them. So I unfroze them and the problem went away. Refroze them, and it seems ok.
So my question is, has anyone had any issues with this and freezing ?
Using Cubase 10.5

Sounds like your HDD has problem keeping up with reading the audio files from frozen VSTs. Try only with 1 and see if it's better. Honestly, I doubt this is the reason, as it's reading it off an SSD. The CPU / ASIO load meter is maxed and stays maxed but the HDD load is nothing and doesnt max. Unfreezing seems to have fixed this , there must be some issue freezing and unloading, but is fixed by doing it again... Maybe time to ask Steiny.antic604 wrote: Thu Apr 23, 2020 4:02 pmSounds like your HDD has problem keeping up with reading the audio files from frozen VSTs. Try only with 1 and see if it's better. Good luck getting anything out of Steinber if you're not bloody Hans ZimmerLeVzi wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2020 8:16 amHonestly, I doubt this is the reason, as it's reading it off an SSD. Anyway, perhaps just render the plugins, disable & hide the MIDI tracks for the time being?

I think that might be the answer tbh, just render the stuff in place, and hide the midi's as you said. But what a messy work around for something that should work better, lol they do brag about freeze.antic604 wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2020 8:20 amGood luck getting anything out of Steinber if you're not bloody Hans ZimmerLeVzi wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2020 8:16 amHonestly, I doubt this is the reason, as it's reading it off an SSD. Is the problem plugin-specific or does it happen with all and any of them?LeVzi wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2020 8:29 amI think that might be the answer tbh, just render the stuff in place, and hide the midi's as you said. Does definitely seem plugin specific, I was using Loom2 but had LFOtool as well.antic604 wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2020 8:35 amIs the problem plugin-specific or does it happen with all and any of them?LeVzi wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2020 8:29 amI think that might be the answer tbh, just render the stuff in place, and hide the midi's as you said.
