Whenever there's a discussion about clip launching, there's group of people that apparently sit to DAW with everything ready in their head and it's just a matter of recording the parts. They never loop, even if they DO actually loop. According to them, loops in music isn't music.

Those kinds of people.

I hope Presonus don't make Studio One a Live or Bitwig clone. :( I don't want that, I don't need that.

In other words... use Live or Bitwig for that!

Oops  Sorry!
Oh i have fallen into it then :hihi:
SLiC wrote: Thu Apr 23, 2020 10:39 am It's funny- people over on the Bitwig thread want all the features in S1, now the S1 people want the Bitwig/Live stuff- I am glad I have both S1 and Bitwig, supurb combination and I have it all 'now'.

I suspect it will be a very, very long wait for 1 DAW to be best in class for both 'live' on he fly arranging experimenting and in depth editing and mixing.....DP has just added it and Logic is also adding it, but we realy need to see if this is a 'bolt on' or a fully integrated environment letting you switch from one to the other and work in 'real time'.

meanwhile, back to the Bitwig feature request thread asking for 'S1' like comping, midi tools like S1 ARA 2 etc
The problem although I have the two also (like you and others), I can't use them together. So, when I use one of them, I sacrifice some cool features of the other one :(

Not that I can't make music really in S1 or Bitwig (or any other DAW), but it is still hunting me and I feel a need to 'this' or 'that' feature from another DAW that I consider essential nowadays (for me at least).

Anyway, the workflow and shortcuts are the best in those two DAWs. Also the performance is very good and I find myself love the time spent with those two :)
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Yes, I have the editors keys for Studio One and also Bitwig mapped to same shortcuts 2 for 1 ;-)

I woudl also like just one DAW that did both, but I have a feeling that would compromise what I like about both- their relative simplicity and focus on what they do!

There probably is some clever way of using them together and simultaneously using midi slave and jack audio etc, but I have never found the need...My personal workflow is often to make stems/backing tracks in Bitwig and add vocal/guitar etc in Studio One (with final mixdown etc). Its not too convoluted realy, no different that me recording my hardware sequences, Electron gear, Eurorack sequence tracks etc to Studio One. I kind of treat Bitwig as an instrument/sampler/groove box more than a DAW, so it works for me in its current form.
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

I have Studio One and when I feel the need to create backing tracks as you describe I just use Live Lite and export the 8 tracks as stems. :)

Every time either Bitwig or Live is on sale I ask myself if I should buy it, but as long as Live Lite carries on being so generous as to allow 24 bit export I shall just carry on using that.

I have Bitwig 8 track but sadly they are not so generous and only allow 16 bit export.

Aliens wrote: Thu Apr 23, 2020 3:43 am Presonus could add a pattern based creation option to go with push and launchpad type integration, to join the likes of Bitwig, Fruityloops, Mixcraft and others who already do it, and though I prefer linear workflow, as long as it's use isn't mandatory or gets in the way, then I wouldn't complain.

But then they might as well just create a 100% pattern based daw, keeping all of the internal gubbins (which could still be updated for both versions at the same time), and sell that instead.

I'd be okay with either option.
Don't see them doing that. That what you use Ableton for.

You guys gotta understand Presonus's background and who it's audience it is. They aren't a DJ company. They have products that are primarily target recording engineers/live sound. They are trying to balance it out with Studio One. If you ask me I see more music producer/songwriter features mixed in mixing/mastering related features as being the focus.

How have they done that? They have one pad controller. Looks at their hardware portfolio. That should give you your answer.

Everyone keeps saying clip launcher. I personally see half the ableton user base (seeing in videos) don't even use the session view. I see more going to the arranger view.

Studio One version 5 will be a mix of features for songwriters/producers/mixing/master customers. Deeper Notion integration, more Atom related features (bigger one for Studio), presonus midi controller etc.

NRPN Support please! 5 versions without true midi support is getting old ;(

Well, how about we look at it from different angle:
- S1 has beatmaker friendly Impact XT and Sample One XT
- S1 added patterns in v4, guess who uses those?
- S1 has extended FX Chains, that most 'traditional' musicians don't even touch (or understand)
- Presonus has built a controller for beatmakers - Atom
- since they're a hardware company, they can EASILY make Push or LP clone

All I'm saying clip launcher fits their trajectory of straddling the space between traditional and creative DAWs.

There will also come a point when the songwriters/producers/mixing/master market is saturated for Presonus (against I assume Cubase, Logic and Reaper) and they make want a share of the DJ/Looper/Experimental market from Ableton or even Bitwig (although I would guess the former is the larger market to target)
