@MogwayBoy, so far I see no names revealed The list on the previous page is afaik just a list and not a link between wave file and compressor. So your impression is probably not right for the compressors your named.

The list is not correlated with the filenames. :)

i removed all numbers from the list on the previous page as well not to give any wrong suggestions.
The list is random, I'll reveal it soonish, if someone is curious they can PM me.

@MogwaiBoy: i just suggest you edit your post to replace names with previous numbers :)

also, i suggest you boil down your train of thought into one concise list of thoughts. :D

I'm going to remove my comments, since I was directly addressing specific plugins by name rather than the files by number.

Nah just edit them so they refer to filenames instead:)

Edit: too late :phones:

Some interesting observations there nonetheless.
And no, the one who you thought was shit wasn’t BRA haha

Oops, well, I saved them to a text file first so I can reference them after I give the files a fresh, good chance, without making an ass outta me (assuming).

PS really glad to hear that!!!! I'm heavily invested in BRA and I shouldn't have trashed VLA-FET so quickly.

edit:

Here is my first round. With some things I was not 100% sure, because they can be changed by other sounds in a mix. Like how much transients you want to hear.

@Ploki: Is it also possible to get the raw unprocessed file as a comparision?

I named it this way: First digit is the wav name, second digit is the part (so just the first drum part). I will compare the other ones later.

1.1 - release too long which creates a hole, natural sounding stereo width, sounds fine otherwise

2.1. - very compressed sound, like how it brings out the snare, stereo width seems small but not bad just a different flavour, I like the vibe

3.1 release too long snare gets not enough tail, sounds compressed without the benefits of hearing the room, high transients stick a bit out

4.1 release a tiny bit too short, sounds ok, high transients stick a little bit out, ok otherwise

5.1 sounds alive, transients maybe a bit too much emphasized, otherwise good

6.1 release a bit too short, a bit less punch but high transients stick a bit out, ok otherwise

7.1 - release a too short so the snare is a bit too much in the background, high transients stick a bit out, a bit too much heights

8.1 balanced, natural sounding, not very much room, nothing wrong, but not so much vibe, no real weaknesses

9.1 sounds very alive, transients may stick maybe a bit too much out, would dial in a bit less release, has a cool vibe somehow

@midi_transmission: I added the unprocessed file to the dropbox :)

i should note that Attack was a bit harder to much than release :(

Thanks Ploki.

Here is the second part. I noticed how difficult it is to rate the compressors just by hearing without turning knobs to get a feeling, because sometimes a little tweak in the setting could change things a lot. Even with this very good examples. Still a quite helpful comparison.

(drum groove)
1.2 I like the attack, good and stable room sound, nice punch, a bit saturation on the big hit, probably my favorite
2.2 sounds fine, but a bit too compressed (not in a bad way), maybe therefore not very punchy
3.2 sounds ok, nothing special in a bad or good way
4.2 somehow organic gooving, I like it
5.2 sounds very alive almost a bit too pumping, release timing may not be the best fitting for the groove, not much saturation on peaks, I like it
6.2.sounds ok, nothing special in a bad or good way
7.2 sounds ok, nothing special in a bad or good way, a bit less punch maybe
8.2 sounds ok, nothing special in a bad or good way, very controlled but a bit boring
9.2 very alive, a lot of snap on hits

(drum groove)
x.3 Good test material, but all versions sound very different. I guess small differences in attack have a big impact here, can't really judge.

(drums with cymbals)
1.4 sounds good, good sounding attack, release maybe not perfect, it cuts a bit a hole in the cymbals on the release
2.4 release a bit too fast, a bit too compressed, not bad sounding but a bit flat
3.4 sounds ok, nothing special in a bad or good way
4.4 the release for the cymbals sounds perfect for me, grooving, i like it,
5.4 very alive, a bit too much pumping for me, the tom(?) sounds great, very snappy, nice sound character
6.4 sounds ok, but transients are a bit too snappy?
7.4 sounds ok, cymbals are very emphasised or in the foreground, a bit flat sounding
8.4 sounds ok, good balance, controlled, not so much movement (not negative, just different)
9.4 very alive, a lot of color, snappy, maybe a bit too less controlled

Now my ears are too tired to check the last 5th bass part today. :-)

OK, I'm ready - put us out of our misery. I'm aching to know what 01.wav is :D

Post

Yes I'm ready too :hihi:

MogwaiBoy, would love to hear which one you like and which not.
