So im about to move my shit to catalina OS. I upgraded Ableton 10, and im getting ready for this.
Any advice regarding this maneuver? Will I have to re-install all my 3rd part plugins? If so, do I need to reach for vst3 versions or what's the scoop.... Is it better to deal with AU format?
I know im late to the party, but I learned to wait as long as possible....
Thank you thank you thank you in advance for any and all suggestions.

Make sure you don't have any 32 bit apps that you aren't willing to part with, yet. I have a few apps that I don't want to lose like iDVD, iWEB, Photoshop Elements 8.

Flash back from the past!!! iDVD was actually great and very effective. People would always be so impressed with the result of loading up their DVDs and getting the initial home screen. It was great for free projects.Bombadil wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2020 7:03 pm Make sure you don't have any 32 bit apps that you aren't willing to part with, yet. I think I might take the plunge this weekend and do the same. I checked my legacy software I think I'm finally in good shape.
You can check by going to the Apple symbol, hold down option key, select System Information and then navigate to Legacy Software located under Software.
Most of what I have listed is older versions of Izotope everything, some old installs of Live and Snapper that needs to be updated.
I know I'll be giving up Kore 2 but I haven't opened it in years already (on purpose), but I'm still sad to see it become unusable. It was a great program, but its finally time for me (not windows users) to let it go.

You can sell it here for a decent price.elxsound wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2020 7:32 pm I know I'll be giving up Kore 2 but I haven't opened it in years already (on purpose), but I'm still sad to see it become unusable. It was a great program, but its finally time for me (not windows users) to let it go.
A lot of nostalgic white old male boomers around happy to pick it up!

I did that first and almost everything that came up was an installer of some kind.elxsound wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2020 7:32 pm You can check by going to the Apple symbol, hold down option key, select System Information and then navigate to Legacy Software located under Software.

Did you have any applications installed that you knew would be deprecated by the by the move, that didn't show up on that list?Forgotten wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2020 7:54 pmI did that first and almost everything that came up was an installer of some kind.elxsound wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2020 7:32 pm You can check by going to the Apple symbol, hold down option key, select System Information and then navigate to Legacy Software located under Software.
I'm just wondering because I don't understand why Kore 2 isn't showing up.
I do have some applications on there, but newer versions are already installed and they simply exist side-by-side.

Or does the legacy software list have nothing to do with the developer signing and only relate to 32 vs 64bit?

I don't know why I didn't realize that earlier. Time to do what I didn't want to do, and that's go through every app and every plugin (video and audio).

So, OP, did everything work out? I'm interested to hear if your upgrade was successful. Very curious since I might need to upgrade but I'm definitely a little fearful. I did an security update for High Sierra and it killed my Touch ID on MBP. At first, it wasn't even recognizing my audio interface but a restart fixed it. The restart nor any of the subsequent suggested fixes for Touch ID worked however. I don't want to kill any functionality of anything related to audio just to get my Touch ID back, it's not that important, just annoying. I don't think I'll ever get another Mac again. My previous MBP was an indestructible tank, until I updated one day. It was never the same after that. And now this one is a little broken because of an update. Trying to avoid making it worse but thinking MAYBE Catalina will fix things. Let me know if you've run into any major problems.

Was this on a supported Mac? If so, I’d look into Apple support. Everything should be supported or the machine isn’t even allowed to run the OS version.joeyfivecents wrote: Sat Apr 25, 2020 1:25 pm So, OP, did everything work out? Unsupported Macs can sometimes have installers hacked to make them work just fine, but stuff like this is what can happen. So far, the only thing I’ve lost on my unsupported Mac (DOSdude1’s installer patches and tools) is recovery partition updates and security patches seem to fail (I have to remember to not install them because the recovery partition update can kill bootability).
