Just curious, what was the price range for that house? In my neighborhood, something quite a bit smaller would sell for $4 million.Hink wrote: Mon Apr 27, 2020 2:05 pmActually after we moved up here and before I met Holly I was seeing she who shall not be named (ashers directive), she wanted us to buy a house together and this house came up for sale. I go by this house anytime I go to Bangor or Brewer Maine.

The house that King was living in and where he got the inspiration for Pet Sematary. (house can be seen inside the cover of the book as I recall) It turned out it was actually in the price range Denise and I were at when we bought this. She liked King, she liked horror and gore, Pet Sematary was here favorite Stephen King.
FTR at this point I'm glad I didnt buy that house...too much house for just me.

Prices vary by a huge amount across the US though. That house might be about $400,000 here, would probably be a couple of million in NH where I previously lived, and there are parts of the country where it would be multiple millions. You could probably pick something like that up for next to nothing in isolated rural areas though.

I only paid 120k for my small ranch (3 bedrooms with garage on 2 1/2 acres)...I paid cash for it (sold my moms condo for 125k). The last argument I ever had with Denise was over that. We had the resources to carry a mortgage and she wanted to use some as down payment (I have extremely low percent interest loan available as a vet, no down too). I wanted to be rid of any payments, no rent, no mortgage, just once a quarter property tax. As it was I tried to get a mortgage for 50k putting 70k down and the mortgage people would not do that low, they wanted a mortgage of at least 100k.
We could have been in that house for around 500 a month which is less than we were paying for rent...we looked at a couple others that were about that price.

Wow. I guess I’d better head East! Oh, but then there are those pesky hurricanes to worry about.

Wow.. In Finland you'd get a flat, maybe 25 to 30 square meters "big" with combined bedroom/living room/kitchen.Hink wrote: Mon Apr 27, 2020 5:35 pm I only paid 120k for my small ranch (3 bedrooms with garage on 2 1/2 acres)
Okay you COULD have a very nice house with a big yard, but it'd be located somewhere between no and where. Probably 50-150km to the nearest store etc.
