I always read this thread as 'Scary Movie'

Just found out that Live 9 won't run on Cat. Ah well, there ya go.

I have the new 16" Macbook Pro, so Catalina was my only option. I did a full clean build, vs. migrating apps and settings. I didn't use 32-bit plugins prior to this machine.

I have only had two issues: Installers that don't work properly (iZotope in particular), and installing plugins directly into the plugins folders vs. using an installer.

For the iZotope issue, they published a manual workaround to get the plugins installed, and current versions are now updated, but still produce a harmless error during install. For manually installed plugins (like Airwindows stuff, Analog Obsession, and Fathom), it is necessary to de-quarantine the plugin files (the .component, .vst, or .vst3) from Terminal, before moving them to the corresponding plugin folder.

That's really it. I have a massive number of plugins, and so far have not had a single show-stopper. DAWs: Logic, StudioOne, Reaper, Bitwig 3.x, Ableton 10, Reason Suite 11. Plugin companies: Acqua, AdmiralQuality, Airwindows, AnalogObsession, Applied Acoustics, Arturia, AudioThing, Celemony, Cherry, Credland, Daichi, Datsounds, DDMF, Digital Suburban, Dmitrey Sches, Eventide, FabFilter, Full Bucket, Goodhertz, Izotope, Vengeance Audio, Kilohearts, Klanghelm, KV331, LiquidSonics, Melda, Gunnar Ekornas, Hauptwerk, Modartt, Native Instruments, Nembrini, Parawave, Plugin Alliance, Reveal Sound, Seaweed, Softube, Sonarworks, Sonible, Sonic Academy, Soundspot, Soundtoys, Steinberg, Sugar Bytes, Synapse, TAL, ToneBoosters, u-he, Valhalla, VSL, Xfer, XILS-Lab, and Zynaptiq.

I upgraded straight away and almost everything worked. However, that was not the issue. The issue is when you re-download or updated a plugin that is not supported. That is where it went wrong with some of my stuff. Slowly, slowly most devs started to update their plugins and now I am back to everything working apart from some smaller devs like SKnote, AO etc.

I do not make any money from music though and it is just a hobby for me. If I did need my things to work for my livelihood I would be less willing to update.

Wow... Apple users expectations are really low these days. "3 things is NOT bad"

If it was in Windows, ONE thing would be enough for a campaign (and there are a lot more things to be covered in Windows). And we don't pay premium prices for Windows hardware.

That's why Apple can keep their policies  Users act like sheep.

So you are complaining about updating drivers? Something you should be doing anyway? What was your point again?

Fernando misses no opportunity to denigrate Apple users, even though he is one. He's also incorrigible, so it makes no sense to engage with him. I.e., don't feed the trolls.

I am a user, but not a sheep. I raise my voice every time I see a reason. And I have my reasons. But that's another story.

Wait for updating drivers (that still don't exist) is something I SHOULD DO? Why are they broken? Weren't they working OK before? And what did Apple to break them? Was it necessary?

Those are the questions that should be asked. And EVERY YEAR history repeats

Yes, it's getting old. It really is EVERY thread where Apple is mentioned. We get it, you don't like Apple, so maybe consider stopping this behavior?

The drivers DO exist... and luckily, for even for people with the older Wacom tablets there’s a community update available.

So yeah, not a big deal. Nobody is forcing me to upgrade. These were all things I was aware of before upgrading, but missed 3 things (that all have updates available).

And I really don’t give a shit about this whole Mac/Windows thing. I have both. I use both. I prefer working on a Mac and so I work on a Mac. I can find plenty of f**ked up things on both to complain endlessly about, but I wouldn’t see the point in it.

Not interested. Pay for app, with a subscription fee. I had already purchased Astropad, just before they too released separate versions with subscription fees and later, add-on adapters.

Sidecar works really well. Just use the share display feature for sending video/desktop to an Apple TV, or enabled TV and choose the iPad. I was running Live on it, and it worked (except with some scaling issues). I wouldn’t use it for Live, but I just had to check it out.
