I wonder if anyone else here shares a love of really cheesy drum machines, like this for instance:

https://www.audiothing.net/instruments/ ... ercussion/

I'm no expert so I can't say which particular models I've heard in the past, but it's that cheesy latin bongo type sound...I thought there might be a cheaper, more extensive library or instrument out there than this ? I have googled but as I say I'm no expert on makes or models.

Any thoughts appreciated, thanks for looking.

The cheesiest would probably be samples cut from the accompaniment loops on old home organs. There are also low-budget drum machines from the past, and modern cheap machines like the Akai Rhythm Wolf.

But some of the cheesiest drum sounds in the past were not drum machines or loops. They are the drums created using "regular" analog synths which only have a few oscillators and modulators. For example, the SH101 kick described here: https://www.soundonsound.com/techniques ... -synthesis

Also 'm now able to google some specific things thanks to this thread, found this list of free stuff (think it might be good stuff, choice selections rather than just generic free things);

Run a Mini Pops emu through a creative saturation / compression channel (Live's DrumBuss is awesome for this), and you've got all kinds of awesomeness.

Anything goes now, and if you give it your own spin... I have a deep affection for these things.

They're also great for laying loops or even single samples.

Yeah, it's not the most efficient way to get those samples but there's something fun about playing around with their kit as if you were collecting the actual hardware, the price is right, and they add there own dirt and such :)

Not sure what you mean? You get all the original rhythms and also one shots. Not sure what else you'd want from a sampled drumbox.

Oh I definitely do! :D

I've recreated three classic (and very cheesy) drum machines in Tremor. Check it out:

These are: Roland CR78, Wersimatic WM24 and Maestro Rythm King. Some sounds are closer than others, but hey! It's still very cheesy! :D
