I'd like to see better implementation for external controllers. Some fancy screen overlay or a pop up window or something like that so I can see what is controlling what all the time. It isn't very intuitive.
Maybe I am doing it wrong, but it seems that controllers only work on a per-channel basis. Ie I need to have a channel highlighted and selected to control the VST's on that channel. Or is their a way to do it globally so for example one knob on my controller will always be mapped to certain VST's no matter what?

I know what you mean and I agree, but when taken literally I feel a more nuanced interpretation is necessary. From my experience the DAW influences and sometimes dictates the way I go around things, where I start and what is my focus. For example:
- project in S1 will be more melodic, more harmonic-driven due to chord track, more comprehensive MIDI editing,
- project in Reason will be more generative & random, "chaotic" and smaller in terms of track count, but richer in terms of what's happening on single track, due to all the crazy players, sequencers & effects available in RE format
- project in Bitwig would be more loop-based, as it would likely originate in Clip Launcher and in terms of sonic complexity be between the other two

Yeah, true, but at least Reaper has a very superior licence model.
I think that Bitwig has taken the new crown for fanboism.

I think that's the case for most people. Why would you be OK with session view in S1 if it only allowed for recording but not playback is pretty confusing! You seem to not have idea how any of this work. Playing from session is what makes it special. Recording into it it's just a means to an end.dellboy wrote: Thu Apr 30, 2020 10:22 amOr do they use session view to record there own clips and then launch them ?
There's barely any fundamental and functional difference between recording into clips in Bitwig vs. Ableton, so how come you find the former clunky in this respect?dellboy wrote: Thu Apr 30, 2020 10:22 amBut as Bitwig has been mentioned, I have to say I find its session view recording to be clunky compared to Ableton.

Makes senseantic604 wrote: Thu Apr 30, 2020 10:32 amI know what you mean and I agree, but when taken literally I feel a more nuanced interpretation is necessary. From my experience the DAW influences and sometimes dictates the way I go around things, where I start and what is my focus. For example:How much of that is audible for others, that's a different thing because no matter the DAW my music sounds like "my music". But - for me - I can hear and recognise the difference and that's why I believe it's important to at least try other DAWs and not prejudice against them just because

I only ever had one DAW though. Ofc i did try several others, FL, Ableton, but decidied that Studio One was the most "workflow-neutral" of them. I mean it doesn't dictate any specific kind of worklow, nor any specific type of composition. It just does what a DAW is supposed to do - it has the tools to progam MIDI, automate synths and effects and mix. I may be missing out some of the modulation powers of Bitwig or crazy modular routing of Reason but I'm more "get shit done" kind of guy, don't want to be lost in infinite options.
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

Of course different DAW's lend themselves to different tasks. If that has an influence on the music you do with the DAW, IMO, that's putting the cart before the horse though. For me, it would rather influence the choice of my DAW. If I want to fire samples, and do loop based music, then something like Studio One or Cubase probably wouldn't be my first choice.
If you want to do photo editing, you choose Photoshop. If you want to do vector drawing, you'd (probably) choose another tool.

You misunderstood my post. I'm not saying I'm forcing myself on Bitwig and do sound design-ey stuff whereas I silently dream about writing orchestral scores in Nuendochk071 wrote: Thu Apr 30, 2020 10:59 amOf course different DAW's lend themselves to different tasks. Presonus normally promotes a new version right? Next week? that'd be pretty short notice ,only company I know that's not big on promotion is NI, their attitude is, you're gonna buy it anyways. From memory, Presonus likes to ride they hype train a bit.

If the clip recording is garbage what would be the point in launching it ? Its the quality of the recording that is important, not the ability to push a button and keep launching it ad infinitum.antic604 wrote: Thu Apr 30, 2020 10:41 am

I have just downloaded the latest update and the problem I had previously with Bitwig which prompted my "clunky" remark seems to now have been resolved.antic604 wrote: Thu Apr 30, 2020 10:41 am
