No, it doesn't, and I worked in "Comping" and "Sound on Sound" modes tonight. I don't use "Overwrite", but that wouldn't splice your track--it would just keep recording over it--unless you started at different times for each take. Then it would "splice" into the recording. But that's still not what you're describing.

Are you recording audio or MIDI tracks or both? I've been working with MIDI tracks.

Audio - I almost exclusively record audio, but I have some MIDI capable-keybord lying around, so will test that later to see whether it behaves differently here..

It would make me glad to see it's just a bug - if that was coded on purpose it would scare me hell out of me...

It's only "ripple edit" that does something like that. If it is set to "all".
Check out the "ripple edit" button top right over the tracks. It should be off.

Yes, this sounds like the "ripple edit" feature in Cakewalk by Bandlab; Sonar didn't have this. Are you on Sonar or CbB?

I meant it's doing it when set to lane-per-take but not when set to track-per-take

Why don't you report that in the user's forum? If you are using the last update, devs will surely be curious.

For the sake of accuracy I think you will find SONAR did indeed have Ripple Editing, I believe it was added around June 2017 (Better late than never ), of course if facts are of no concern, just carry on.
