Any thoughts or suggestions?

Why are darn guitar tools so overpriced compared to similar generic tools?

I have an £30 second hand Yamaha acoustic with its frets removed, it has binding along the fretboard, I don't have a fret nibbler.
To refret, do I cut the binding with a thin blade or buy a nibbler and try to modify it?

New frets are waiting to be put in.

Licensed Floyd Rose tremolo intonation tools, any suggestions that don't require the selling an organ or KY jelly to purchase?

Not sure what shipping would be like, but there are some really reasonable places in the US where the cost reduction might offset the shipping.

Places like https://www.stewmac.com/

Thanks, their StewMAX Membership looks a good option for free shipping, like for a group buys or big orders.

A lot of their stuff is overpriced, like digital Vernier calipers @ $60. These can be had for $20 elsewhere.

Being frugal (AKA tight), I might just cut the binding or order the $16 item off Ebay and sit the fret on something similar to Allen/Hex key but with 4 sides.

I've watched some videos on YT of professional luthiers avoiding buying nippers, maybe from Stewmac. No-brainer for a pro, but, I can understand them making tools, because they have a workshop.

I also so seen a pro guitar tech explaining the use substandard tools on clients instruments, resulting in substandard fretwork.

As an hobbyist, I can't justify paying hundreds for refrets, I had my Tokai strat done over 20yrs ago, it cost £90 and 2 return train tickets to Sheffield.

Partial coil split, never thought of one of these guitars, I like the sounds

I think I could live with that for most of them, but 1 cents for the Digitech seems like quite a bit compared to the others

PolyTune 3 coming to me 2 new pedals down the road...
I lost my heart in Cap de Creus

I suppose accuracy is key if you setup your own intonation.

get a cousin who builds guitars :)

he did start a business, but being a lazy sod, despite building several very nice instruments, now does ocassional tune ups for family n friends and cleans chemical trucks for money.

nice thread Noodlist imo
my skills are rough,
but I thought I'd mention that aluminium burrs are just amazing for carving if needed
epoxy paint is the most hard-wearing spray-pack possibly

the Digitech tuner did well in their test though
I have Korg and Boss, didn't see the Boss TU-2 in there,
it's an old standard afaik
I wonder what I want in here
-my site is gone and music a mess

Boss's free app is more accurate than their pedals according to the below website, unusual. Not good from a business point of view.

OK- 3 cents on my TU-2
Intonation is not that hard to set in my experience

- another thing is that needle files can be substituted for specifically nut files,
sometimes cheap ones are high quality
I wonder what I want in here

That's good to know, because a lot of guitar tools are overpriced.
It shows that the advertised spec might differ in reality, if those3rd party test are reliable and accurate.

cool :ud:

-imo, it is always best to drill before screwing,
the tiny little screws can have their heads mashed easily
I have a drill chuck mounted to a handhold/pipe in my shop,
pre-bores could be done carefully with that

I hope your fretwork satisfies!- it matters so much to the feel of a guitar not to have a ratty fretboard. That's something I haven't done really, only once- with terrible results :dog:

I suppose its down to the tools, I have 2 notched straight edges and both yield different results, I seen techs using neck jigs to maintain a straight fretboard while working on it, and others that don't.
