Reason Drum Sequencer

Okay. I just got reason suite yesterday (btw, Reason 11 intro is the best deal in music software). I am beyond impressed with Drum Sequencer. It is so good. It reminds me of Breaktweaker (which may be my favorite sequencer). Breaktweaker can do a few things Drum Sequencer can't (but Drum Sequencer can do a few things breaktweaker can't).

some things I love about it.
1. able to easily change which key is being triggered - so I can use the same sequence with another drum program that uses a different mapping.
2. Love note repeat and probability. very cool.
3. Polyrhythms are cool by changing the length of individual tracks.

Please let me know of any other drum sequencer midi fx that is similar. I would love to check it out.

VERY interesting new MIDI FX from the RapidComposer dev, demos available:

Any videos available yet for Melodya? Is it basically a stripped down version of RapidComposer? If so, that would not necessarily be a bad thing, IMHO. I have RapidComposer, but there are often times when it is a little too much for the task at hand.

Melodya doesn't have any kind of chord tracking yet (just creates a melody in the selected key), so I don't think it would be that useful to me in the current debut version. But it's pretty cheap -- especially on the intro sale -- and the developer (who is excellent and responsive) already seems at least open the the idea of adding a master chord track (which I wouldn't think would complicate things too much), so I may just go ahead and get this.

Attila, the RC/Melodya dev IS excellent and VERY responsive; I'm getting this just to support him, knowing that I'll both like it and enjoy seeing where he takes it. AND enjoy having a possible part in the latter via forum feedback:

Anybody here tried this one yet:

MIDI Lab

I've yet to upgrade beyond Mac 10.12, so I can't try the demo… getting ready to jump, but not yet:)

Are these comparable to Midi Lab:

Bidule
Reason Rack with the Players. but cannot ghost VST's
Reaktor but cannot host VST's
Unify has some built in midi fx
Architect is modular and very likely full of features but I am not aware of any.

As a stand-alone it was offered for $55.
Now as a VST is is $74
So it is a modular plugin that can host plugins.
I hope it goes on sale.

My focus now is Scaler 2 and Melodya especially that the developer may be adding some great new functionality.

Edit: the alternatives to Midi Lab were discussed earlier in this thread

I need to keep away from this thread ...... :)

Just read the brief review was added at Midi Madness https://www.kvraudio.com/product/midi-m ... ntent=6340
I have been interested in purchasing MM for a while but their sales never go low enough to trigger my GAS. I now am comparing it to other similar midi plugins to see which I will buy.

I noticed a few other interested in MM so let me ask how many may purchase MM at $39.95. If I get more than three I will email MM and as for a voucher for this thread. Count me as one.

The last sentence caught my eye on MM:
Perform Live
Midi Madness 3 includes brand new playback modes - freestyle and trigger. Freestyle gives Midi Madness its own mind, and sets it off playing a unique sequence. Trigger mode lets you use incoming MIDI as a trigger. Simply bash your piano keys, and Midi Madness will make all the notes fit the current chord sequence.

…altho I must admit, that review points to exactly the usage of MIDI devices that I've gotten completely bored with: Set-it and sit-back stuff is cool for about 10 minutes, IMO, and many of the tools discussed here can supply it. I mean any randomizer plus a modulatable scale quantizer can do it. The only questions then are, how good (detailed, rich, customizable) is your randomizer and how complex your scale/chord quantizers?

Trigger mode, or some variant is also available in several others, and it's much more appealing to me—and the more the merrier, I say:)

Much as I still intend to support the MusicDevelopments tool Melodya, I just stumbled on this video for SunDog Song Studio, which I hadn't really yet explored, and it seems to offer the same split between melody line and melodic rhythm, already very well worked out including chords and drums. (I guess this has been mentioned here already, but I somehow missed it—sorry!)

SunDog is great and the dev is very nice too - the only drawback for me is, that it's not a VST but standalone.
Otherwise I can highly recommend it.

Melodya somehow didn't do anything for me when I tried the demo.

Cheers,

Tom
