This seems like a nice topic to channel a bit of frustration. I was like: "Oh, it's Black Friday. There's gonna be deals. I might make some plugins up to date." As I'm about to finish a little EP, I thought new version of Ozone would be nice for the masterign stage. I'm currently happy with Ozone 7 Standard. I'm not really a fan of these matching EQs and AI assistants, but there might be some new features I'd like. The rebalancing seemed cool for example. So I went to their page. "Sweet! They have sales!" The standard is down from 250 to 200. ...aaalright. Logged in to see the upgrade price. 150 bucks. Right. So It must be full of new features then! Opened the comparison table and found out, there is a UI performance improvement and a new Stareo Enhancer algorithm. That's it. All of the cool stuff is in the crazy expansive Advanced edition. Is it just me or does it really feels like a bit of a rip off? 🤔

I guess I'm staying with my trusty old Ozone 7 then. Props to iZotope to at least keep legacy downloads straight forward. Not like the other big effect company... 🤨

I don't know if it's just you, but for me - the upgrade price was $149 from Ozone 8 Advanced to Ozone 9 Advanced, so it didn't feel like a rip off. YMMV, of course. :D

What? In my account it's 149 from standard to standard. 😓

Actually, I paid roughly $126 USD for my upgrade from Advanced to Advanced. But I didn't go through my iZotope account - I went through JRR about 2 months ago:

I'm in the same boat as you. I have Ozone 6 and was looking to upgrade, waiting patiently for the sales to commence. Only it appears there is no real sale on upgrades, just onboarding sales for newcomers. 200 dollars for the advanced ozone and the mixing software (Neutron) wasn't a poor deal though. Just not in the market to spend 200 dollars and accumulate more software.

Maybe that is the new pricing scheme? Get people onboard for relatively little and then get them with upgrade fees?

Yeah. Whatever sale they had, it's mot active now. Also, from advanced to advanced, they added allbto cool stuff. From standard to standard they added just a new skin and the widening algorithm. Yet they charfe 150 bucks for bot of those upgrades. Dunno.

The upgrades (both from Standard to Standard like yours, and Advanced to Advanced in my case) were discounted already at launch +2 months ago at $149. The extra discount at JRR was definitely a bonus.

If you can hold out, iZotope always does more sales - usually in the late winter or spring, and summer... You just have to be patient. I'm sure JRR will have another coupon at some point, as well. With a discount/sale, it may be worth it for you to upgrade from Standard to Advanced and get more features at that point.

Yeah, that's strange. My old ass 3770K is substantially slower than your 3900X, yet Master Assistant isn't crashing for me. Has to be something else afoot (unless your projects are super massive and have plugins hogging the CPU)?

Did they request logs or anything to troubleshoot?

What are the steps to recreate this bug? I'll try on my end.

Withe the current prices for the crossgrade to Tonal Balance Bundle I'm thinking about jumping from elements to advanced.
Originally I was waiting for a good deal for the Mix&Master Standard bundle (i had somehow missed the $150 deal).
From comparing the editions I came to the conclusion that Standard would be enough for me and that I wouldn't need Advanced.

So, is it worth spending the extra money to get Advanced?
The tonal balance plugin which is only available with Advanced seems to be getting some praise, but I wonder, why do I need it, if Ozone Standard already has Track Referencing, Reference Target in Master Assistant and Match EQ?

Well, the simple answer is: Tonal Balance allows you an additional tool to sculpt your master using a visual cue. Do you need it? Well, Ozone didn’t have the tool until version 8, and it was still the most popular mastering suite in the industry. It’s just a new tool that helps you. Whether you need it or not is entirely up to you.

I was always unsatisfied with lite versions of iZotope Products. Upgrade if you can afford it.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.
