Does Notarization needs an Apple Developer Program license (costs $99 a year)?

I don't need the App store, only my new Plug-ins to run on Catalina.

Unfortunately, yes because you need a code signing certificate (among other stuff), which cannot be a self signed certificate you usually create on your Mac.

So Apple doesn't only want my code but also my money?

Nobody forces you to develop for Apple platforms.

Why not if sales on Apple platforms cover this annual $99 payment? What do you suggest? Abandon additional income?

I am not an enemy of Apple. But they must not forget that their machines are only useful with good software. Also I don't like the idea that they will read all our codes before allowing them. This leads one step more to a general surveillance that is growing worldwide in these years.

I actually think it's great that there is a fee. It weeds out most of the insincere developers and makes you more credible.
I notice that for example Line 6 apps never install on my Mac without being stopped by the security service. If they had bothered to certify their apps I guess this would not happen.

What Line 6 apps? What Mac OS version? It sounds like you're saying this has been typical for you, including pre-notarization, but maybe you mean Mojave/notarization.kovacs wrote: Mon May 04, 2020 7:37 am I notice that for example Line 6 apps never install on my Mac without being stopped by the security service. I just tried the HX Edit app installer, and plugins Helix Native and Amp Farm, they are signed, clearly. I know for sure AF is not notarized at this point (I'm the developer). But this is with High Sierra, my computer's limit (and Apple @#$%@! my new Mac order, otherwise I'd be able to check this now). But I can see HX Edit is hardened.

MacBook Pro 2016 w/tb, Macos Mojave. No Line 6 apps pass, I always need to approve them in the Mac settings panel.

OK. Beside of the conspiracy of surveillance, can you use the same account for OSX and iOS, or is there a trick that forces you to buy a second ID? Because I maybe want also to publish some apps for the iPad.
