For me it’s better native effects.
There are two kinds of people in the world. And you're not one of them.

A loop editor and a song editor like FL Studio.

The native effects are pretty powerful, they just look a bit shit.

My feature for Reaper I'd like from other DAWs - don't look so shit.

Style, just style. Reaper is by far the ugliest and most disgusting software I know. Especially as a musician meaning ARTist, it hurts my artistic eye when working in Reaper despite all the themes. The problem is this hilarious Windows 3.11 base look. So I would like to see a straightforward graphical user experience like in Logic Pro X or Bitwig - and automatic tempo detection of full tracks / stems as in Logic or Live.

The good ones

The daft thing is that half the job's already done. The current version has loads of styling and customisation options, just not enough of them and not enough good choices. Just pay someone some cash to expand the options and create some great default styles ffs.

Coherence.

Reaper has at least a couple of ways to go
just open it up completely as more or less a set of functions for others to put together
get a designer and design a DAW for creative musicians with concentration on workflow

at the moment Reaper has become what was predicted long ago based on known limitation of the development methodology - it has a core and then a bunch of add-ons that make the whole experience clunkier and clunkier and increase complexity for the user and reduce system stability and coherence

have you tried reaper?

Bitwig will do everything you want. 8 out of 10 owners prefer it.

The GUI is the bestest of them all, I read.

Might be. But I see ignorance is your best feature.

Just off the top of my head.
Btw i'm often referring to Sonar or Acid. Other DAWs most likely do feature many of those features too.

1. General overthought of how to simplify/streamline it's stock workflow. Many things are unnecessarily convoluted or downright hidden in the weirdest places unless you drastically alter it to your likings.
2. „bounce / render to new item“ of selected items like it's possible in Sonar or Acid by a simple key command
3. easily accessible manual track delay option (for example when right clicking the phase button). And while we're at it, why not expand the idea and make your selections also available in note length values
4. dedicated Audio Editor functionality that's on par with Sound Forge's workflow that is also available inside your DAW without the runtime libraries crap bloat of the latter.
5. addable separation lines for the fx browser like in Sonar
6. keyboard shortcutable MIDI item up/down transpositions in semitones like in Acid or Sonar
7. I actually quite like „GUI less“ plugins in general, but my eyes bleed when i'm trying to use the EQ or some others of their plugs. The compressor and pitch shifters are done right though. Renoise for instance does this more consistently good though
The GAS is always greener on the other side!

Not if I want tempo and chord tracks and seamless Melodyne integration it won't.
