I wish Reaper looked better just so all the whiny, miserable "looks like the 90s", "looks like windows 3" f**ks could STFU for good. Talk about triggered, we can't have a potentially useful conversation about Reaper without all this BS every f**king time.

Just, go, go play with your candy coated DAWs that make you think you're flying the f**king Enterprise or something, make great music with your tools, maybe ask yourself why you have the need to make this point every time. You're obviously lacking something spiritually.

all the whiny cuts both ways GaryG - moving the conversation from looks to usability historically met with howls of derisive laughter from the good ol' boys at Reaper about how "its all subjective" I was talking on the forum about usabiilty and design issues arising from the dev methodology as early as 2007, as were others, and the aggression in response was palpable and has only let up over the last couple of years.
Still love Reaper as an audio editor, but for creative production with vst's it is not close to something like Bitwig or Studio One, and no doubt others. It is not enough to have a set of functions, they have to be organised productively. and Reaper does not really do that at the level other DAWs do, any more than Juce (as a DAW) does

Nah, the multichannel matrix is one of my favourite things about REAPER. It would be a bad idea to provide additional ways of doing the same thing.

Pretty DAW-agnostic, personally. They're all tools that in the right hands help people create good music. And while I do have certain misgivings about Reaper (And yes! Even how it looks), I'm sure I'd have no real problems getting used to it

The daft thing is that half the job's already done. The current version has loads of styling and customisation options, just not enough of them and not enough good choices. Just pay someone some cash to expand the options and create some great default styles ffs.

It should have a built in browser too with pictures / thumbnails for instruments / effects with drag 'n' drop functionality. In keeping with Reaper, a fully customisable browser and great searching ability, audio wave display too with those bracket type things to isolate a specific part of the waveform and automatic tempo synching of samples. If they they then just added decent GUI's to all their instruments and effects, winner.

REAPER does have powerful media and fx browsers already, with a quick filter/search feature, tagging and the ability to create custom smart collections. Drag and drop works. I keep the browsers docked at the side of my screen most of the time.

Exactly. Reapers browser is quick and functional. That some kids needs eye candy to be able to select a VST doesn’t matter.

And I have buttons for all my favorite VSTs in the top menu, so couldn’t care less about candy and thumbnails in a browser.
