What is wrong with Cubase?

I have most of the DAWs other than ProTools. When I want to be creative, I fire up Reason, if I want to do some heavier lifting, I use Cubase. The rest of them are gathering dust.

d'oh the latest update has been added to 10.x.x not to 10.5.x it explains quite a lotxbitz wrote: Sat May 09, 2020 4:54 pm just installed because of you, freestyle displayed wrongly, bluecat patcher displayed wrongly, saved preset, loaded preset crash>> https://www.steinberg.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=102270 no solution (mac high-sierra, latest C10.5)
- https://www.steinberg.net/forums/viewto ... 3&t=184140The Cubase 10.0.60 maintenance update is the final update for the Cubase 10 generation. We have focused on improving the stability of Cubase 10 and corrected some features that didn’t work as expected. If you are on macOS please have a look at the notice about Hardened Runtime at the end of the release notes.
The update installers are already available in the Steinberg Download Assistant and in the download section of our help center.
Several instabilities and random crashes could be reproduced and fixed for this update. We have improved the stability in the following situations:
• When editing Auto Fades settings.
• When editing events while selected for Audio Alignment
• When undo was used on Audio Alignment
• When switching between projects.
• When adding tracks.
• When opening the Direct Offline Processing window.
• When importing a range from the MediaBay Preview.
• When using certain VST3 plug-ins.
• When working with MixConsole Snapshots.
• When accessing NAS file servers from the MediaBay.
• When exercising different user interface operations in the MixConsole.
• When editing Note Expressions.
• When deleting media from trash in the Pool.
• When recalling Workspaces.
• When closing projects with GrooveAgent and other VST instruments.
• When exporting video.
• When importing AAF from DaVinci Resolve.
• When making copies of ARA-edited events to other tracks.

It's not confusng at all. If in doubt, just ask.djboomstick wrote: Sat May 09, 2020 8:09 pm for instance , pad shop pro was included with the cubase package i have . does that mean i get padshop2 included or not , or at the discount upgrade price , or is that for stand alone upgrades ? . . .
thats all very confusing to me .
i guess it is more of a problem with steinberg than with cubase .
Answering your question: Yes, you get Padshop Pro 2 FOR FREE with Cubase Pro. As well as Retrologue. They even come with VST2 versions (although for Cubase alone they wouldn't be needed).
What you DON'T get for free is HALion Sonic and Groove Agent. Those come with SE versions, that work only inside Cubase. To get the full versions, you have to buy them separately.
Anyway, very few DAWs allow you to use their included instruments/processors in other hosts. I'm glad Cubase allows this with Padshop and Retrologue.
To know exactly what may be used and what not, just check your regular VstPlugIns folder. If Cubase installs something there, it is accessible to ANY host.
VST2 and VST3 plugins that don't run outside Cubase are installed in special folders inside Cubase's own folder

I would not say it is less popular. It is popular in the composers field, you will see many composers using Cubase for both creation and mixing / mastering.
As most of the informations you will find on internet are made by sound engineers, they will mostly talk about Pro-tools or Logic, ...
I've used many of them including Pro-Tools and Logic and they are all equaly sounding. Their audio and midi workflow is kinda different and it is important you use what you feel confortable with.
I went back to Cubase as I am a composer / songwriter (but I professionaly mix and master my tracks) and as I feel more confortable with it.

What triggered you suddenly, whining/venting in wrong thread?Daimonicon wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 12:14 am Cheezuz, most post on kvr are whining posts about something. Ppl today are too spoiled and except the impossible from others and even if the impossible was made possible they would still whine. If ppl was as good as whining as making good music instead the world would be a nicer place and kvr would be a better forum. Is it ppl are disappointed they can't make better music and instead start to whine as a bad excuse for their lack of talent? I think so.
The difference between pro's is that they don't waste time complaining about a DAW, or long time for a upgrade of the DAW or plugins, ilok, etc. Instead they make magic. A famous producer/mixer, can't remember who now, was still using Pro Tools 6. So shut up and try make music instead.
People can make music (or magic) and talk real about their experience in same time, seems like that isn't possible in your world, you think pro's aren't annoyed with some things, you think they don't complain too, you built quite some illusion for yourself there.

Longtime Cubase user here. A few points. I think you are right: it's one of the best, if not the best, DAW for traditional linear audio and MIDI sequencing and editing.andypryce wrote: Sat May 09, 2020 1:22 pm ... the more I dive in to Cubase (because of media composing needs)the more I am amazed by it's features. As far as I can tell for linear workflow it is more advanced than the most and constantly updated. So what went wrong and this DAW is not more popular than for example Logic which is way limited compared to Cubase and had a last feature update in Jan 2018?...
On the downside: Cubase / Steinberg's brand image and corporate identity is a bit stiff and "oldschool boring German".
I think their PR department and management level is hardly in tune with current lifestyle and subculture trends and fashions in music, so they fail to attract the younger crowd, but on the other hand Cubase / Nuendo are very popular among professional audio engineers, film scoring composers and professional producers of rock and pop music.
Also, Cubase user interface looks a bit dated. Cubase has developed some idiosyncrasies over the years. For example when I just want to do some EQ adjustments quickly using the built in tools, I can either use the EQ that is contained in the MixConsole Strip, I can use the Cubase standard EQ as a channel insert and then there is another separate Cubase EQ in the Channel Settings window. So at some point I decided to just ignore the whole MixConsole Strip and also the separate Channel Settings Window and just use insert effects the traditional way.
When I do stuff in Ableton, I never get this sort of confusion. There is typically only one place to find a certain function in Ableton, not multiple places. And also, in Ableton you would typically find a function where it logically makes the most sense.
Then, I also think that Cubase user interface (especially on lower resolution screens) is too cluttered with all kinds of buttons. They should really overhaul their UI and UX concepts to be more consistent, which can be difficult with a long existing DAW like Cubase, since you cannot simply turn everything upside down without offending longtime users.
Also, there is a general trend from linear sequencing to more performance oriented / pattern based production styles. Cubase does not really have a lot to offer for those preferring this style of coming up with ideas (Cubase arranger track is not really a competitor to Ableton Live's Session View or FL Studio's patterns).
So, since I used Ableton Live, Cubase feels a lot more clunky to me than before. Ableton Live allows for a more flow-type, distraction free workflow. But then again, Cubase overall has much more functionality than Ableton and out of all the linear DAWs I still find that Cubase is more straightforward than most of it's competitors, except maybe for Studio One (but Studio One has much less functionality overall).
Overall Cubase is a pretty good linear DAW, but a bit dated UX and UI wise. The Cubase PR / management are also out of tune with current music subcultures and their brand presentation is a bit odd and stiff.

I don't use Cubase precisely because of the dongle and I whish they dropped it because I love the DAW.zvenx wrote: Sat May 09, 2020 4:07 pm Ftr I have no issue with dongles (and in many cases prefer them), but I do know that for some it is an issue and may be part of why Cubendo isn't as popular as it could be? Just guessing here.

It's only a gut feeling, but, I feel like there is a chance that Cubase 11 comes without dongle protection. There's been rumours about that for a long time now.trtzbass wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 12:44 pmI don't use Cubase precisely because of the dongle and I whish they dropped it because I love the DAW.zvenx wrote: Sat May 09, 2020 4:07 pm Ftr I have no issue with dongles (and in many cases prefer them), but I do know that for some it is an issue and may be part of why Cubendo isn't as popular as it could be? Sadly I have to agree, the support is what is really wrong with cubase. Everything else (workflow, UI/UX, features, dongle..) is pretty much subjective and a matter of taste, but waiting weeks for a support reply is bad.auron wrote: Sat May 09, 2020 3:54 pm Another last thing i want to mention is that support from Cubase , this is getting the worst support i ever experienced in any software. They let you wait 3-4 month until you finally give up and then you will get an email says "We looked at your problem , try to reinstall Halion 6... " or something. That is discouraging . If you want basically show the world how cool Cubase is, that doesnt work with such a worse support.

Well... rather replace 3 or 4 months with 2 or 3 weeks.
Not sure why people always have to exaggerate that much... your point is clear. No need to exaggerate hard to make it bigger than it is.

Something wrong with KVR? usually, there should’ve been several other threads by now with titles like “Whats wrong with Logic/Reaper/Live/Bitwig/Sawstudio/[insert DAW name]”...
