Some of the old-timers may remember my jRhodes soundfont. It's back, in SFZ format, in mono and stereo, on GitHub:
https://github.com/jlearman/sfz-jRhodes3c-looped
Here's a little demo: https://github.com/jlearman/sfz-jRhodes ... xample.mp3
16-bit samples, up to 5 velocity layers, every 4th white note sampled. EQ'd as I usually played my Rhodes, with a treble bump to enhance the bell attacks, and a low-mid scoop to avoid boominess. Not your "everyman's" Rhodes. 16MB of FLAC format samples, which I use in Sforzando. If you discard the stereo samples it's only about a third of that.
These samples are looped after a couple seconds, to reduce the memory footprint back when that was a bigger issue.
Why stereo? For Rhodes? Simply because that's how I like it, with a mild pitch shift doubling added in mid-side format (so it cancels out completely in mono) to provide a bit of image, and the baked-in effect sounds far better than any live FX I was ever able to find.
Stay tuned; later I plan to post the full-length samples, up to 12 seconds or so.
If someone would loan me a Wurly I'd do that next!

In October 2019, I built a Box Violin out of a paintbrush box. I've finally gotten around to sampling it, and today I'm releasing the sample for free. Download link in the YouTube video description.

Some really ancient soundfonts and sfzs (both the samples and the instruments that were sampled):
http://www.banchetto-musicale.com/en/downloads.htm
http://soundbytes.de/EarlyPatches/en/downloads.htm
And another classic:
http://sonimusicae.free.fr/accueil-en.html
P.S. quite amazing that these websites still exist. That's the magic of websites that rely on nothing else than simple HTML. No dependencies on overhyped web technology trends that become obsolete and replaced by another hype after a short life span.

jRhodes is now available with unlooped, full-length samples (up to 25 seconds.)
There are two stereo effects baked into the samples:
For both effects, the stereo image is controlled by MOD wheel. Push the MOD wheel up to go from mono to full stereo and beyond. The default is full stereo.
https://github.com/jlearman/jRhodes3d
This will be moving to http://github.com/sfzinstruments . In the meantime try it and let me know if there are any issues.

Hello! I have access to a lot of vintage and rare gear so, in short, I sampled about a bunch of drum machines and synths through them. There are only a couple free packs but I figured I might try to get the word out on KVR.
Here's the free 808 But More Compressed pack, where I sampled my own original 808 through a vintage Gates STA-LEVEl compressor.

Hope you enjoy!

Do you mean software to do sampling, or software to play sample sets? For instruments, or loops/clips?
For a player for sampled instruments, the best bet is Sforzando. It has a standalone player and a plug-in for your DAW.
For editing sample sets, I've heard that Polyphone is very useful. I don't know whether it also helps record samples. I believe most people (including me) record samples in a DAW (like Reaper, but it's not free) and then collect them into an SFZ-format sample set using a variety of tools or by hand.
For playing clips of music and using it in their original (with help) music, I don't know what's freely available.
