Thanks a lot for this explanation!...
I've been into audio and recording for a long, long time, so I could safely assume I'd knew something about the topic.
When th PHA9..first appeared, I discussed the topic in the PHA Voxengo forum without ever having had a clear, really clear answer about what was different between using this plugin and a simple time sliding of two tracks in a DAW?...
I've always had the knowledge of all this in theory, but somehow could never make the mental connection about the fact that "phase" is a function of frequency.
How could I've ever being so stupid?
Now it is completely clear!

Rere, I understand your confusion, and you *may* treat PHA-979 as a simple delay plug-in. My goal was to describe how it works and how it is different from a simple delay. PHA-979 is a second tool to reach for when a simple signal delaying does not work. I.e. it does not mean you need this tool in every 'phasing problem' situation possible. But I would suggest to use simple delaying coupled with PHA-979 to get the best results possible without destroying the sound. There's simply no other unobtrusive phase matching approaches available.

Hi Aleksey,

just had an idea, today.

What about a plugin that would analyse the phases components of a signal, and change the phases of another signal, accordingly, to make phases match. this could be very powerful to align the phases of two signals.

could it be useful, or is it nonsense ? :D

maxlef, I don't think this can be accomplished without changing phase relations between frequencies. PHA-979 does not destroy phase relations and that is why I call it 'unobtrusive'.

Woah... I too thought I was across most of the physics of sound as it relates to production- until reading this thread!! Does anyone know where I can study the background theory behind this conecpt as I've read over the thread a few times and am still lost :-o

Am I correct in assuming one would use such a technique when a phase 'problem' has been identified, and that this kind of tool would shift one channel backwards or forwards in time in relation to the other until this problem is audibly corrected? ...or am I completely off track?!?

HELP!?!?
