Hello,

I am in need to organize my plugins in performance-friendly environment.

I am looking for

1. Stable host
2. Hosting certain set of VSTi plugins. I wish I could create series of „setups” switchable by MIDI, each one consisting of same set of plugins. Each setup would be customizable by following parameters:
a) keyrange and velocityrange for each plugin
b) preset of each plugin

I would remotely (by MIDI) switch between these setups for instant recall.

Any help highly appreciated, thanks

Ableton Live - pretty much the industry standard for live work (especially if you pair it with something like an Ableton Push or a Novation Launchpad).

Yep, Live 10 + Push 2 is the best combination.

Thank you all very much. I will give Ableton a try. I actually considered getting NI KK m32 keyboard which comes with Live 10 lite version. I tried Cantabile, but had some issues with it. Bitwig looks tempting too, but I am completly new to it.

It can work both as a standalone host and as a plugin, and it has a workflow that is focused on a lot of the features that you are looking for.

As high performance hosts for live gigs you can give a look at these products:

cantabile
gigperformer
camelot pro (mainly for keyboardists but still lacksing of vst effets)
liveprofessor

All of them have a trial vesrion, so you can try by yourself if they fill your specific needs.
What is really interesting is the capability to create complex setups with zero latency switching.

Once again thanks a lot for all the suggestions.

Camelot pro workflow, features (all I need) and simplicity would fit me best, but it looks like there is one key feature missing I forgot to mention - switching between layers forces reloading settings of all plugins, which causes crashing the app(I use YT, Korg and NI legit plugs only). With LiveProfessor I can specify what settings are applied and which are bypassed when switching between snapshots. While definitely not as intuitive as Camelot, LiveProfessor could be the right one, still, I havent tested it enough in terms of stability.

Reaper as well as Ableton would cost me extra time to master, which I cant allow at the moment.

Assuming you dont need sequencing/pianoroll you can do everything youve mentioned with VSTHost.

Granted it doesnt look like much visually, but dont let that fool you, it is one of the most stable software i can think of, has extremely powerful MIDI features, is modular, and has 128 switchable performances, ('setups', as you called them), i.e. it seems to be just what youre looking for.

Let me give you a mini-walkthough on how to achieve what youve described.

- You want to switch performances via MIDI. Go to Devices/MIDI/RemoteControlPort, choose a control type (like CC), set rest as required. Performances 1-129 are now MIDI switchable. (Performance 0 is special, it cant be selected via MIDI.) Use any of the many other control types if you dont want to use a CC. You can add as many new rows as you need to control other functions/parameters via MIDI.

- You want to create setups consisting of a number of plugins. Just patch them together in the main window as desired, do any required routings, (i can give details on routing if necessary but its all in the manual too), setup your keysplits/velosplits as required, save the performance into the desired slot.

Thats about it, you now have a Performance Center with 128 setups that can be directly selected via MIDI. And there is a LOT more you can do. I think when it comes to MIDI, VSTHost has pretty much every feature you could ever need covered, you just have to learn where everything is because often it is not immediately obvious.

Thank you very much, indeed, I underestimated it so far. For the moment I am rebuilding my own software to be more performance friendly, but surely, I will give VSThost an another try
