I use to sell those, they weren't bad...but there was an issue, but for the life of me I can't remember what...poor customer service maybe? But actually at the time I liked them because they had a digital output which pod doesn't..theshaggyfreak wrote:Another one to stick in there (if you can find it used) is the Johnson J-station. I was able to pick one up before they stopped selling them, and I'm very happy with what it has to offer. Here's a link to their site for more info: http://www.johnson-amp.com/jstation.htm

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I've never had to deal with this customer service, so I couldn't really answer that. I've had zero problems with mine since I got it, and the s/pdif output is really nice. The software to edit patches is really great to, and it's amazing what you can come up with.hink wrote:I use to sell those, they weren't bad...but there was an issue, but for the life of me I can't remember what...poor customer service maybe? I have a Digitech GNX2 and I like it a lot. Digitech made the J-station as well, and these devices have a pretty decent "crunch" emulation that many folks say rivals the POD, etc.
Of course, where the POD outclasses the Digitech stuff is on the triple rectifier type emulations - watch out!
I am still looking to sell all my hardware, however. It's this crazy native plug obsession thing - I'm in love with the concept of taking just a guitar, laptop, and audio interface to a gig.
I downloaded TubeBaby based on the raves here on KVR but have not tried it yet. Putting aside the big, expensive boys like IK Amplitube, etc., are there any other native plugs I should be looking at?

I like IK Amplitube and Izotope Trash the best for guitar sounds. You really should give Amplitube a try, it's excellent. If you can stand hardware, the Tech21 SansAmp line is awesome. I've got the PSA-1 for guitar and the Bass Driver DI which is outstanding not just for bass, but for acoustic-electric as well.

I just checked out this topic:

Looks like there are enough quality free guitar amp/fx plugs out there already to keep us all fat and happy for a long time!
I also just demo'ed TubeBaby - great sound! Can't wait to try the others...

True-my live rig for years was a Boogie stereo rig(Studio Preamp with a Simul/295),and you needed an exciter to cut through-IF running in class A with EL34s.I've found that EL34s just don't give me that much high end.hink wrote:Don't belive me try a stereo rig with a maximizer...you'll go home and think someone threw a wet blanket on your amp.
I use a Kasha preamp and a Marshall EL84 20/20 power amp with a stereo 2x12 nowdays-the 84s maintain their high end response and you can really kick the shit out of the power section.I run a stereo DI from my power amp to the board as well if 20 watts a side doesn't cut it(and in most clubs,it will).Recording,it's my Kasha through an ADA MicrocabII or just straight into an old Roland line mixer and then into my soundcard-works great.

Check out Johnsons website. There are over 300 patches uploaded by other users that you can download. Yes, it's quite a nice piece of equipment, and I'm very happy with mine.S_A_P wrote:I just got my Jstation in the mail today woo hoo. ITs nice what 100 bucks will buy you on ebay

The s/pdif output makes it really nice and quie for recording. That's one of the things I wish more amp sims had.S_A_P wrote:yeah Ive been there- I got the new editor software installed already, and the new firmware with extra amp models just incase mine doesnt have it
