I find a lot of information buried in threads here, much of it out-of-date, and most of it hard to find.
The google doc is quite a collection, thanks!
I'd like to see things like a list of good sites to find sampled instruments, lists of good sampled instruments, lists of sample instrument players with pros and cons, information about good tools, etc. In my case I'm primarily interested in SFZ format, but of course I can convert.

Seen a couple of discussions about creating one, always ended up going down in flames when people started arguing about format, completeness, scope and all that.
Which isn't to say creating one isn't worthwhile. But extensive discussion before creating one doesn't seem to work.

What are you trying to do? Do you want to help convert non-SFZ libraries to SFZ? Or do you just want to gain a general overview about what's freely available? If you want to do the former, please feel free to create mappings for those proposed sample libraries in our thread, that haven't been mapped yet. The thread looks a bit chaotic, but I will try to edit the initial post to make it more apparent which sample libs still need mapping.
The latter would be quite a tedious task: For example: there are many freely available libraries out there, but typically they require the full version of Kontakt (so it's only really free for owners of Kontakt). Then there are sample sets of unspecified origin - could be violating someone's elses intellectual property / copyright (often the case with obscure soundfonts).
Sometimes sample libraries have been released freely only for a limited time and then they were turned into a commercial product. Or the website that presents and hosts the sample library disappears after some years (same with free libraries that are shared through online file hosters - often the link becomes dysfunctional after some time). So, an up to date list would also have to reflect all these factors.
On the other hand, as you have probably seen already, we are building a small directory of SFZ mappings and SFZ instruments hosted on GitHub. During the last weeks kinwie has created an astonishing amount of mappings for sample libraries, that would otherwise only be available in proprietary formats.
At some point we will try to list at least the available SFZ format sample libraries in a comprehensive overview.

What I want to do is help collect and disseminate organized information. For answers to a specific question, I'd search here, and if I don't find it, I ask here. But it sure would be nice to see a curated list of "Best of" SFZ sampled instruments, and collected wisdom of various kinds.
Of course it's impossible to do anything perfectly. That doesn't keep us from doing what we can.
Since there doesn't seem to be one that people know of, let's start with mine, which is just a stub at this point. One of the things I'd like to see there is for anyone who wants, their page of favorites (sample sets, players, tools, whatever). People would quickly find people with similar goals and esthetics.

Some aspects of such a Wiki would already be covered by the SFZformat website. Have you seen it lately?
Are you part of the SFZ specific Discord server? If not you can be sent an invitation by one of the members (I don't know how to do it, but DSmolken and RedTide should know).
The curated list of available SFZ instruments is definitely on the agenda (I already have some private spreadsheets with a selection prepared) and I think the SFZinstruments GitHub is not such a bad location for that list, what do you think? Minimizing redundancy doesn't hurt in these times of information overload.
By the way - I'm really looking forward to your revision of the jRhodes. The 'old' version already sounds fantastic!

Thanks! The jRhodes update is the same sample set but the full length that I recorded rather than the shortened ones I made to work on my laptop at the time, with 512MB as I recall. Maybe only 256MB. (I no longer have that piano; it's a good thing I sold it or it'd be ashes now.)
If this works out well, I'll be asking RedTide if we want to move it to the github sfzinstruments organization. Let's see if it gains traction first. But IMHO, that's the best place for most things.
I think this is the first I've heard of SFZ Discord. The first link on the wiki is to SFZformat, which is the correct place for technical details to be sure.

sfzformat.com is great, but it's not a wiki. To add content, you have to use git, fork the repo, make the changes, and wait for the admin to accept the changes. As such, it'll stay much better organized! But it impedes everyone adding their 2 cents.
I use the site a lot! I'm also grateful that they preserved PL Jones's page, which I used a lot back in the day and still find use for today even though it's out of date.

Oh I do intend to support that effort. But I also want to make it easy for everyone to contribute. That's the idea behind wikis.
