I'm not in the market for anything else right now (quite happily working with Tracktion and eXT), but for whoever said that they can't imagine this release attracting newcomers--
The NI instruments are an extra bonus, for sure, but the main draw for me, were I in the market (;-)) is ReWire slave functionality. Using Acid as an instrument within Tracktion would mean that all my personal needs are met. I often use drum loops for tracks, and while dragging and dropping them works fine in T, the flexibility that Acid offers (esp. timestretch-- which as you say, other hosts now have but Tracktion is dismal with) would bring a wealth of new opportunities to my particular way of making music.
So... for me, the 2 main draws are the ReWire slave, and the extra bonus of the NI instruments.

i've always felt that acid has been the quickest and easiest program by far for setting up tempo maps when scoring a movie. so quick and simple, and now it seems like they have expanded this feature? anyone have some details on that?

If you're dragging your loops with a mouse, then Acid and Live are even.AD80 wrote:Ok I have my riot gear ready for the comment I'm about to make......
I still find the way Acid handles loops to be the easiest and fastest even when compared to Live.![]()

If you improvising, Live wins hands down.
Relax AD80, no ones going to shoot you yet.

It really doesn't look like they did much to v5 except add the "groove" features. All the other stuff was there in v4.#
Acid is still a great program for loops and easy vol/pan automation but it's day in the sun is over.

Hmmmm...... I don't think your too familiar with ACID 4 then:sdv wrote:It really doesn't look like they did much to v5 except add the "groove" features. All the other stuff was there in v4.#
I don't seem to recall ACID 4 having "Realtime Event Reverse", you can reverse loops, one shots and even beatmapped tracks in real-time. You can even make a whole project, in ACID 5, go in reverse, in realtime during playback with one keystroke and nary a glitch with full PDC (Plugin Delay Compensation) using UAD-1 DSP plugins to boot. ACID has always been tight as a drum when looping projects using UAD-1 plugins, with full PDC.
I don't ever recall ACID 4 having a dockable Plugin Manager with the ability to create plugin chains for instant recall.
I don't seem to recall ACID 4 being able to burn redbook CD's, Disk at Once CD Burning, with track markers, you can in ACID 5
I don't recall ACID 4 being able to be used as a ReWire slave
I don't seem to recall ACID 4 having native VST support with automation and tempo sync
I don't seem to recall ACID 4 having nestable Track Folders
I don't recall ACID 4 having separate installable Media Manager module that integrates seamlessly into ACID 5 as a dockable window. One of the slickest customizable search databases for tagging, organizing and searching multi-media files of any audio app. When you want to search through your 23GB loop library for just the right loops, preview and drag & drop onto your timeline, in matter of seconds, you'll know what I mean. A real time saver!
I don't seem to recall ACID 4 having a project metronome
I don't recall ACID 4 having bus to bus routing
I don't recall ACID 4 having Downmix Monitoring
I don't seem to recall ACID 4 having Envelope Changes Applied to Multiple Selected Events
I don't seem to recall ACID 4 being able to drop
One-Shots in Real-Time. Insert loops and one-shots as you project plays back. You can also create your own loops in the Chopper and add them to the timeline in real-time during playback via keyboard commands for live mixing.
I don't recall ACID 4 having Multiport VSTi Soft Synth Support
I don't seem to recall ACID 4 having a Bypass All Effects feature:
Bypass all audio effects (track, bus, and assignable effects) during playback so you can quickly compare your project with or without effects applied.
I don't seem to recall ACID 4 having these MIDI Editing Enhancements:
ACID Pro 5 Piano Roll allows you to choose a key or scale, snap-to note values, and easily paint chords, arpeggios, or other custom templates, preventing off -scale notes for more efficient music creation
I don't recall ACID 4 having enhanced timestretching and transient detection.
I don't seem to recall ACID 4 having customizable keyboard mapping either.
Oh, and let's not forget, Dim Monitoring, Multiple docking windows support, customizable project media folders, customizable UI and Windows XP theme support, Flash (.swf) format import, Color coded effects buttons to indicate when PDC is being used and when it's not in a plugin chain, you also get over 1,000 new loops in multiple genres, the Native Instruments™ Xpress Keyboards plugin pack, and of course the new innovative Groove Mapping quantization with Groove Cloning technology, but you knew that one already.
Yeah,.... your right... it looks just like ACID 4

acid4 was a pile of shite and ruined acid's good name. now it looks like acid5 is going for the loop-only market. that puts it out of the serious host game imho.
that feature list is very weak on real innovation. some nice enhancements, but its all too late. these features don;t even get acid up to where other apps have been for some time.
i agree with earlier post - acids glory days are now gone forever. sonar & ableton are the pros choice in the field now - this release just ends the years of hope that acid may be revived

What ever gave you the idea that ACID was ever to be a serious full featured host app? Sony nor it's predecesor, Sonic Foundry, ever publicly stated that ACID was to be the be all end all audio host app. It is what it is, a loop arranging tool. It's strength, in addition to it's ease of use and superb customizable interface, is being able to bring in pre-recorded media (audio loops, MP3's, one shots, beatmapped tracks, MIDI loops, video files and so on) and create / edit / arrange / mix / export projects, whether it be for multi-media video scoring, creating dance/club mixes, surround sound mixes or simply burning redbook CD's of ACID projects. That is why, ACID 5, unlike SONAR or LIVE, can open and save to 22 different audio and video formats and burn a project to redbook CD. ACID is not a DAW, it is a multi-media creation tool that can import, export and preview more formats than you can shake a stick at. ACID strives to be format agnostic. ACID has acquired many DAW like qualities over the years, but in the end, it's main strength, will always be taking existing media and arranging, editing, mixing and exporting the resulting project to whatever format is required. Whether it be, scoring a music or corporate video, doing a 5.1 surround mix, hitting a house remix or developing an original project and burning to a redbook, DAO, CD. It does it far easier and more efficiently than any other app, IMHO.Cabinfever wrote:acid4 was a pile of shite and ruined acid's good name. now it looks like acid5 is going for the loop-only market. that puts it out of the serious host game imho.
ACID Pro 5 is not like SONAR or Live, nor is SONAR and Live anything like ACID Pro 5. It is what it is.

I think it's a rule that even-numered ACID releases are a huge disappointment.Cabinfever wrote:acid4 was a pile of shite and ruined acid's good name.
(as such, I might ugrade my ACID 3 to 5 if the price is right...)

I like Acid 4 a lot and I don't even USE loops in my music - it's the simplest, most intuitive program I've tried for complex non-destructive edits in irregular time signatures, for example.Cabinfever wrote:acid4 was a pile of shite and ruined acid's good name. now it looks like acid5 is going for the loop-only market. that puts it out of the serious host game imho.

I agree, the smooth non-destructive editing, even during playback, with full auto PDC, in ACID is superb.
