Arturia's full price is €199, early bird €149, with various lower prices for ppl who own several of their products

really?wagtunes wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 3:06 pm Ultimately, it's the price that will determine this for me. Weill wait for Synapse's before making a decision.
not which one you prefer the sound of? (regardless of who thinks what is "better")

i dont think bones cares, and nor should he.e-crooner wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 2:59 pmI have heard a bit of their music, my mum would consider it torture, and so do Ivurt wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 2:41 pm we would be his band. they dont do disco inspired pop.
they dont do the things michael jackson did, they are not him.Actually, I dare suppose most people on the planet would.
he and his bandmate, make music they enjoy. numbers are irrelevant.
the reason michael jacksons dance music was as good as it was, was because that was mjs personality. his ballads on the other hand were mostly twee dull shite, because that wasnt.

Again, for the same $149 (assuming that's what it will cost) I get 4 new synths, all of which I can use for my business. So yes, it makes a big difference in spite of the sound.

MJ's 80's stuff, especially Thriller, was musically successful because the production was great, thanks to Jones and Swedien. And they used great studio musicians, the whole Quincy Jones staff.vurt wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 4:19 pmi dont think bones cares, and nor should he.e-crooner wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 2:59 pmI have heard a bit of their music, my mum would consider it torture, and so do Ivurt wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 2:41 pm we would be his band. they dont do disco inspired pop.

But Wags, you already have a TON of instruments. At a certain point, it's gotta become about quality over quantity. Out of VCollection7: the Melotron is not better than MTron and sounds a bit cheesey IMO, the CZ is nice, the Synthi sounds nice but a bit esoteric in use, the organ update is not better than things like AcousticSamples or VB-3 II and others, and you'd get a sub-par OB-Xa (it does not sound very good at all so far IMO).wagtunes wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 4:24 pm Again, for the same $149 (assuming that's what it will cost) I get 4 new synths, all of which I can use for my business. So of those, what's worth upgrading for you and what's going to add to what you already have? Hence, why I'd advise you to wait. VCollection8 should be out soon, and less than a year later will be on a $99 upgrade anyway. Just wait it out with Arturia.

well of course the production helped, but getting the right artist on a production is a part of that.e-crooner wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 4:31 pmMJ's 80's stuff, especially Thriller, was musically successful because the production was great, thanks to Jones and Swedien. all i meant was, its better for a musician/artist to do what pleases them, than what pays the bills. imo.
even more so for any artist who is expecting a live audience.
as a paying customer, i would prefer to see someone who is in to the music they are performing rather than going through the motions.
and as you say, the majority dont really care, they listen to a radio, maybe buy the odd album (usually one thats been played at them on the radio).
bones audience on the other hand, do care, to them music is part of their identity, its music theyve had to seek out because the mainstream wasnt feeding it to them.
neither is necessarily better music as such, but better suited to an audience of a different type.
mj would get booed off at most gigs ive ever been to (except one where he didnt
bones would get booed off at a chamber orchestra recital.
music has different things to say, different contexts, different audiences.
disappointed noone picked up stock, aitken and waterboarded

ah OK, so you're buying to make and sell soundbanks, not musicwagtunes wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 4:24 pmAgain, for the same $149 (assuming that's what it will cost) I get 4 new synths, all of which I can use for my business. So yes, it makes a big difference in spite of the sound.
seems like a decent business decision then

The thing is, love or hate Arturia stuff, out of 80 libraries, the V5 collection is my 8th best seller and the V6 collection is my 20th best seller. Arturia stuff sells. I don't know why. It just does. Plus, you have so many synths you can make presets for, you can literally make hundreds over the span of a few synths and sell them for dirt cheap, relatively speaking. It's a no brainer as far as running a business.AnX wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 4:53 pmah OK, so you're buying to make and sell soundbanks, not musicwagtunes wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 4:24 pmAgain, for the same $149 (assuming that's what it will cost) I get 4 new synths, all of which I can use for my business. And since I already have so many great sounding synths, do I really need an OB-Xa at all anyway? It's not like it was one of my favorite synths growing up, though I admit it does have a sound that's all its own. Or should I say Oberheim has a sound that's all its own. I was a Matrix 6R owner and absolutely loved the way that thing sounded. It was the fattest synth I'd ever owned at the time.
They don't make them like that anymore.
