Actually, there is one person who has to care. The developer. If they're going to put money into making an emulation, they have to be reasonably sure that it's going to sell. Developers don't do this just for the love of synths alone. Anybody who believes that is delusional. This is still a business.fuzzlightyear wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 6:21 pmI'm not going to tell you what to spend your money on, just trying to let you know that eventually long time consumers of digital software emulating classic and discontinued hardware is eventually going to run it's course.wagtunes wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 5:54 pm
Who cares? I buy things because I feel I have a use for it. No other reason. This year so far, almost 5 full months into the year, I haven't bought one synth. Hell, the only thing I bought all year was a new controller for $260 because my old one had so many problems with it.
I hardly buy synths at all anymore. But if something comes out that I find interesting enough to get, I'll get it.
I couldn't care less if all the hardware synths in the world ever made got emulated.
I believe it's already happening with the over saturation of the marketplace and everyone already having SSDs full of plugins they haven't touched in years. There are better places to put your money, but if it's a hobby, obsession or whatever, enjoy it because you're right, no one cares.
Will the day come when every hardware synth has been expertly emulated (because right now there are plenty of crappy ones)? Probably. But we're not even close to being there.
We still don't have a great emulation for any of these synths, all of which I think are special and I am sure others feel the same way.
Yamaha CS-80
Alesis A6 Andromeda
Korg Poly 800
Yamaha SY22
Ensoniq SQ-80
Yamaha GX1
ARP 2600
Sequential Circuits Prophet VS
Hartman Neuron
E-MU Proteus 1
Oberheim Matrix 6
ARP Chroma
And that's just scratching the surface. What I wouldn't give for any of these.
Sadly, it is doubtful we will EVER see any GREAT emulations of any of these.
Point is, there is still plenty yet untapped.
