The OB-Xa didn't have individual voice cards, AFAIK. That was the OB-X
And the Matrix6.
I had one and each voice sounded slightly different.
Some of the chips looked like they had been replaced on the voice boards so that probably contributed as well.

Actually, there is one person who has to care. The developer. If they're going to put money into making an emulation, they have to be reasonably sure that it's going to sell. Developers don't do this just for the love of synths alone. Anybody who believes that is delusional. This is still a business.

Will the day come when every hardware synth has been expertly emulated (because right now there are plenty of crappy ones)? Probably. But we're not even close to being there.

We still don't have a great emulation for any of these synths, all of which I think are special and I am sure others feel the same way.

Yamaha CS-80
Alesis A6 Andromeda
Korg Poly 800
Yamaha SY22
Ensoniq SQ-80
Yamaha GX1
ARP 2600
Sequential Circuits Prophet VS
Hartman Neuron
E-MU Proteus 1
Oberheim Matrix 6
ARP Chroma

And that's just scratching the surface. What I wouldn't give for any of these.

Sadly, it is doubtful we will EVER see any GREAT emulations of any of these.

Point is, there is still plenty yet untapped.
Flash forward 5 years, what's next, ANOTHER software based classic emulation of discontinued hardware? Or will Behringer start pumping out low cost hardware clones of every variety?

As software prices get lower and lower will the increased volume of different brands of emulations increase or decrease?

Once individuals reach a certain threshold of instruments, will this lead to less or more sales overall?

So, new comers to music are their primary targets in order to keep their catalog relevant and profitable.

Because a high percentage of people already have enough instruments to last them a life time, and only a small percentage of them have figured that out.

But, it's always nice to have a new toy for entertainment or work, so there's always going to be rebels. :hihi:
When people move the goal posts to make a point, there is no longer an original point to be made.

Point is, we are nowhere near emulation saturation yet.
I agree... The market didn't become saturated with the hardware (which was way more expensive) why should it be saturated with plug-ins?
Because plug-ins are way more affordable. So many of us have multiple (emulation) synth plugins. The market is therefore far more saturated than with hardware synths.

Well, I would say not only Pigments (though it's actually unique and powerful stuff and always will be), but as well many other v-collection synths very good and interesting in different senses.

Just compared it to my OB 8 which is as close you can get to an OB-Xa (used to have both but preferred the OB 8 ).

This plugin most def has a lot of the authentic OB vibes/sounds. When tweaking it sounds off, especially the filter, but in "static" settings you can get very close for a fraction of the hardware price.

For the rest it has cool extras and can do modern sounds the original can't.

Great job Arturia !
