Well V-Collection 8 isn't out yet, so right now Arturia is selling the OB-Xa V solo for $150, which few V-Collection owners will pay for a single synth. So it could be an opening for Synapse Audio to do something clever like offer Arturia V-Collection owners a crossgrade price, and grab some of those users before Arturia upgrades V-Collection to version 8.tony10000 wrote: Wed May 20, 2020 2:04 amRich must be pretty bummed out right now...BONES wrote: Wed May 20, 2020 1:24 amIt's actually the opposite - we're spending time here because Rich is busy putting all the finishing touches on everything. Rich might also want to think about creating a collection of his own with The Legend and Synapse OB-Xa.

It is $99 if you have Analog Lab and $49 if you have V7 from what I understand.jamcat wrote: Wed May 20, 2020 2:12 amWell V-Collection 8 isn't out yet, so right now Arturia is selling the OB-Xa V solo for $150, which few V-Collection owners will pay for a single synth. There’s two things being talked about here. Fidelity (which actually has nothing to do with synthesizers) and recording style. There was a pretty high degree of fidelity from the 50s on, but quality can vary wildly, as do styles. I personally hate a lot of that 80s stuff like Depeche Mode, but it had everything to do with style, not necessarily the state of recording technology. I could take every bit of gear they used and make a track that sounded nothing like it.BONES wrote: Wed May 20, 2020 1:24 amThat the world is full of idiots is not news to me. After all, Justin Bieber has sold more records than Barbara Streisand, Billy Joel or U2 and Rihanna has sold more than Pink Floyd. There is simply no accounting for taste.Personally, I clearly prefer the sound of the mid-80, and I am by far not the only one

My deal as a V Colleciton 6 owner (maybe also because I have a Microfreak?) is $149 for OB-Xa and an upgrade to V Collection 7.jamcat wrote: Wed May 20, 2020 2:12 amWell V-Collection 8 isn't out yet, so right now Arturia is selling the OB-Xa V solo for $150, which few V-Collection owners will pay for a single synth. If you upgrade to V-Collection 7 now for $149, you'll likely have to pay another $99 to upgrade to v8 in a couple months. If you wait you will just pay $99 once for all of it. This is what I will do to upgrade from my v6.
But if Synapse Audio offers OB-Xa and the Legend as a bundle for $99 or less before Arturia offers me a V-Collection 8 upgrade for $99, I could be persuaded.
So Rich can turn this into an opportunity, and bank shot off the increased interest in an OB-Xa model that this is sure to generate.

Im waiting for Synapse. The Legend is the only synth besides Repro that I truly feel hits the mark. I know that their offering of the OBXA will be much better sounding. I appreciate what Arturia has done, and it sounds good, but there are levels to this, and Synapse is just offering quality over quantity

Who would've thought 40 years ago that the OB-Xa would be teaching people the difference between the sin of instant gratification and the virtue of patience? What an honourable synth!

mholloway wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 10:01 pmInteresting. When using the Arturia, did you notice the 'hidden' panels for per-voice panning and advanced stereo offset options? They are invisible at first (weird choice) and you have to 1. click the 'stereo' or 'pan' buttons, which makes a sort of faded-out control panel visible immediately above the keyboard, and then 2. click on that faded out panel, to make it 'active' and visible. There are two of these total, one for the 'stereo' controls and one for the 'pan' controls.Ingonator wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 9:18 pm FWIW for comparison i am using the demo version of Arturia OB-Xa V which is available with Arturia Software Center.
Besides the basic sounds that as mentioned in my last post IMHO is much better in the Synapse Audio emulation also some of the advanced features included in the Synapse Audio emu are not included with the Arturia one. Some of those advanced features were essential for me when doing my own patches and not having those in the Arturia plugin would be another reason why this could not be a full replacement for me.
FWIW both emulations do include multiple advanced features compared to the real OB-Xa. In this thread it had been mentioned multiple times that the Synapse Audio Ob-Xa will not just be a simple 1:1 copy of the hardware like it was already the case with The Legend compared to a real Minimoog Model D.
I ask simply because these seem very easy to miss, especially in a quick demo-use scenario, and if you did miss them, that might change your assessment about what features the Synapse has over the Arturia.
thanks.
per voice panning is in the free obxd too isn't it?
anyway, that's not even close to the options per voice that the SA version gives

i dont think a small company can compete with sale prices from someone like arturia , and it won't be expensive anyway..... gotta pay the bills after all

Id easily pay over $200 for a seriously high quality, realistic Oberheim emulation. As mentioned earlier, when synth shopping I’d have paid $500 for one if it would’ve satisfied my ears so as to not buy the OB-6. I have yet to hear one that qualifies at that level.
That said, I’d also happily pay less!
I’d pay $150 in a heartbeat for the Synapse OB-Xa. Never for Arturia.
The months tick by. What, is Synapse the new U-He? Hahaha!
